I made this for Chips Compo 10.

The Story:

You wake up to find yourself in the pitch dark. You have no idea where you are, but you know you’re not alone, as you hear different sounds coming from every direction. You can sense some sounds being closer to you than others. You hear explosion after explosion, and worst of all, you hear cries of agony in the distance. You feel your surroundings and realize that you’re in a cave, so you use the walls as guidance to move forward toward the loudest sounds.

After a few turns, you finally catch a glimpse of light, and an exit. Once you exit the cave, you’re in disbelief at what you’re witnessing. There’s an ongoing war. For miles and miles upon the open grassland, two armies are engaged in a brutal battle that is killing hundreds every minute. The sight is overwhelming, and you're filled with a sense of dread and helplessness. A soldier dashes past you, dropping a sword, assuming you will know what to do with it. He seems vaguely familiar, but your memory is blurry at the moment.

To your surprise, as you pick up the sword, you feel an unusual surge of energy and a newfound sense of purpose. You become a determined fighter, trying to do what you can to help your side in the battle. You save a few injured soldiers along the way, but you also understand the limitations of your actions in such a massive conflict. Despite your best efforts, the scale of the war remains beyond your control.

Feeling overwhelmed and disheartened, you retreat to a safe spot on a hill where you can observe the chaos from a distance. As you sit there, a sense of lucidity comes over you, and you realize you must be dreaming. With this newfound awareness, you decide to make things a little more interesting, so you fast forward a millennium into the future.

Now, you find yourself fighting another battle in space, on an enormous, state-of-the-art spaceship. This time, the battle is a 1v1 against a formidable opponent. With your spaceship, you engage in an intense dogfight, navigating through the multiverse, evading enemy fire, and looking for opportunities to outmaneuver your foe. After a tense battle, you finally land the fatal shot and take down your enemy.

Filled with a victorious rush, you break into a celebratory dance as the adrenaline courses through your veins. However, your moment of triumph is short-lived as you decide it's time to return home. Landing your spaceship back on Earth, you are struck by a terrible sight – your village is in ruins, and everyone is dead. Buildings are burning, and the stench of destruction is unbearable.

Overwhelmed with grief and despair, you can't help but wonder if your actions in the dream are somehow connected to the devastation you see now. You decide that you've had enough of this surreal and devastating journey, and with all your willpower, you forcefully wake up, putting an end to this cycle of insanity.
