I composed this character theme for my video game music portfolio.

Description:

Sir Ealric is a devoted paladin on a quest to rescue his lover. Along the journey, setbacks and illusions test his resolve, sparking self-doubt. Will he persevere?

Instruments:

• Intimate Grand Piano (Spitfire Audio)
• Tina Guo Cello (Cinesamples)

I tried orchestrating the track in numerous ways, with more countermelodies and flourishes, but none of it did justice to the heart-wrenching composition. I eventually ended up with just piano and cello, which I think is a perfect duo. I left the composition unadorned so the emotions of the harmony can shine without any distraction.

Update December 29, 2023: I replaced the virtual cello with a real peformance!
