Chapter II: Believe

So, I started writing this song yesterday. I've been going through a bit of a stressful time to say the least. This song seemed to just unfold when I started to work on it though, which is good. Back in 2016, as some may know, I went through the experience of losing my mum. The grieving stage was pretty bad, but I released a track called Face The Silence, which was my attempt to pull myself out of that dark place. Some of the lyrics that were poignant to me back then were,

"take a step outside your door, feel the sunlight, walk the shore, there's nothing that you cannot face alone."

A year and a half later, and I feel like I'm in a much better place and I feel stronger for getting through that. This is me, looking back to the me that I was then, thankful that I found a way through it. Hence, Chapter II: Believe.

I'm happy I had the opportunity to make this.

Lyrics:
They say the end is coming
Have you seen it? Have you heard it?
Frankly I just don’t believe it

It feels like the beginning
Can you see it? Can you feel it?
They’re watching over you

Believe
There is something worth fighting for
Oh there’s still so much to see
‘Take a step outside your door’
The wisest words you gave to me
And I walked along that shore
Finding hope that set me free
And I just hope you find it too
Take it slow and just believe

Forever in my mind
Forever in my heart
Forever in my soul
In everything I do

Believe
That there is something worth fighting for
There’s a whole world left to see
‘Take a step outside your door’
Those are the words that set me free
And I’ll walk along that shore
Whenever sadness follows me
And I hope that you can too
So long as you believe

Lovely. :)

Very sensitive piano opening. Vocals seem a little bit overwhelmed and in a different space when you first come in, although this is fixed when you come in with the lead. I'm enjoying the presentation all the way through.

Currently searching for an artefact I thought I heard, but I think it was just the player glitching. Great job!

Otherwise, I find myself at a loss for commentary or critique.

I like the soothing atmospheric vibes at the beginning, the pulsing strings that come in shortly after, and the soulful vocals. The pacing is a little slow, but the first section with the lyrics has a great emotional appeal. The instrumental is pretty light, and perhaps could’ve used some more fill in the higher frequencies, but the production quality is very strong. The vocals make the piece sound very intimate and personal, which is a huge plus. I really feel like you’re speaking directly to me throughout the piece. The vocal harmonies are beautiful, and you do a fantastic job of using your voice to channel the emotion of the piece. I like how the piece comes full-circle with the piano at the end. Structurally, I feel like the piece completely took me on a journey without sacrificing much in the way of coherence. Overall, this is an enormously strong piece that’ll be hard to beat. Downloaded and fave’d. Keep up the great work, Jordi! ^_^

This is wonderful, Jordi! I'm so happy to see how well this turned out considering your mood and time pressure that was put on you. This piece felt truly sincere in a way that a lot of songs of such a deeply personal nature struggle to. I can't wait to see the results of this round and have my fingers crossed for you. Excellent work! :)

I think that a lot of the time, when you don't have to force a song, it will in some ways just create itself. It doesn't require a lot of effort or frustration, so I was lucky this time. I had put myself under a lot of pressure to force myself to create something before, and it's just nice sometimes to shed that and just make something without worrying about what you're making. <3

Speaks to my heart... Thank you! :) A beautiful song, Jordi!

etherealwinds responds:

Then making this was a success. Thank you!
