Morning Horizon 2

Since I'm on such a submitting spree I may as well post something else. Morning Horizon (which you can find here [remove spaces NG adds]: http://www.newgrounds.com /audio/listen/310418) is a very old song of mine. In fact it's one of the first songs I ever did using East/West Symphonic Orchestra Silver. Despite it being quite half-assed, up to date I'm still quite proud of the melody I did, so after a good number of months with a revisited version in my head, I decided to write it down into FL Studio, and here's the result.

I find it a lot better than the original version. That version had a thinner sound, an almost mediocre sound, but over here I made sure that the mix is full of depth and sounds more intricate. I also made better, more hard-hitting drums, and far much better transitions. So yeah I'm quite proud of this. The only problem is that the project file got corrupted, which unfortunately renders me unable to continue this 1 minute and 7 seconds of music. Which sucks. A lot.

Anyhow this uses East/West Symphonic Orchestra Silver for everything except the drums which are a mixture of Ethnoworld 3 and Stormdrum. The congas/bongos/shakers are from Ethnoworld 3 and the thumping, more powerful drums are from Stormdrum. Oh and the flute at the beginning is a mixture of a standard orchestral flute from EWSO and a Shiva flute from Ethnoworld.

So, I hope you enjoy it, and if you want you can check out the older version for comparison. Any reviews are greatly appreciated and thanks for listening!

I HATE YOU.

JUST BEFORE THE CLIMAX IT ENDS!! OMFG I HATE YOU FOR YOUR INSOLENCE!

Step responds:

OMG NOOOOOOO.

Thanks for the 10 :D.

Epic

I'll agree with you that this version is better. I felt the first one wasn't necessarily "thin" as you said, but this one brings out a lot more and gives the piece a wholly epic feel, as if it's from a soundtrack to a movie. In fact, I can totally see it as music that would play over intro credits, as the camera sweeps the hillsides.

You sure can paint a picture with your music, great work.

And that is a shame about the file, sorry to hear that, but at least you got this much out of it.

Step responds:

Thanks for reviewing this one now. Much appreciated!

"I'll agree with you that this version is better."

Thank goodness for that :3.

"I felt the first one wasn't necessarily "thin" as you said, but this one brings out a lot more and gives the piece a wholly epic feel, as if it's from a soundtrack to a movie."

Haha maybe I thought of it as very thin after comparing it with this one :P.

But thanks for comparing this to a movie soundtrack. People tend to do that with my songs and I'm OK with that I guess!

Good to hear :). I try and aim on making my orchestral pieces have a certain identifiable atmosphere to them. Makes all the difference in my opinion.

"And that is a shame about the file, sorry to hear that, but at least you got this much out of it."

True. Would've loved to continue it though.

Anyhow thanks a lot for the supportive review!

Final Fantasy?

Loved the way this one sounded. Did you use the preset loops on this one?

Step responds:

Actually using preset loops to make songs is against the rules I'm afraid. Everything I make is original :P.

Glad you liked it.

Oh my!

You have really managed to create a true cinematic piece. I´m such a sucker for flutes and the way you have used them in here, adds to the spiritual, ethnic thing you got going here. I´m also glad you didn´t give the drums too much headroom, this way they fullfill the track rather than overpowering it.

I hate to compare music to my own, but this reminds me of my style and approach when writing tunes such as these.

Very crisp and very clean, fuck it´s even uber-dynamic. Great control of levels and a warm, mellow mix.

Kudos to you!
5/5

Step responds:

Wow, thanks for another review. I really have to find the time to review you back soon.

"You have really managed to create a true cinematic piece."

Thank you. I love creating this type of music :3.

"I´m such a sucker for flutes and the way you have used them in here, adds to the spiritual, ethnic thing you got going here."

Yeah. I find flutes my favourite instruments from the woodwind family, so it's a good thing there's such a wonderful variety of flutes in Ethnoworld 3 and EWSO.

"I´m also glad you didn´t give the drums too much headroom, this way they fullfill the track rather than overpowering it."

Finding the right volume for drums is usually quite hard for me so I'm happy that I got that right!

"I hate to compare music to my own, but this reminds me of my style and approach when writing tunes such as these."

Cool :D.

"Very crisp and very clean, fuck it´s even uber-dynamic. Great control of levels and a warm, mellow mix.

Thanks! All of these helpful reviews are just great; I'll have to review you back sometime or else I won't live with myself. Thanks again!

Epic

Epic man.. the more i listen the more i like!! nice work! Very medieval

Step responds:

Thanks! I guess with orchestral instruments you're bound to make something sound somewhat medieval.

Glad you like it!
