EDIT: Awesome, a Top 30 :3. Thanks for voting it up guys, and feel free to check out my other works like Plains Theme or Legend. This one's pretty outdated and old... :P

--

Here's one of my favourite songs from the soundtrack I made for an RPG called Eternal Quest. I tried to go for a town-like theme, although I think it's a bit too busy for a town theme. Still, I think it has that sound which makes you think of life in a small rural town.

This uses Virtual Guitarist 2 for the guitar, East/West Symphonic Orchestra Silver for the strings, piano and the tuba, the Unison soundfont for the flute, and random drum samples for the drums. This is supposed to play well after the game's menu theme (which I'll be submitting later on). I'm quite proud of this song, and it took me quite a while to do. Having said that, this is actually a pretty old song of mine. I think I've improved since then although I've always liked the atmosphere of this song.

Thanks a lot to Gravey, Blackhole12, Echo and Decibel for hearing this and providing some excellent criticism. I wished I could edit it to fix some of the problems they mentioned in the song (such as the cymbals sounding too tinny, the piano being too soft and the flute part being too short), but my FLP got corrupted. At the time when I was making the soundtrack, my old computer was dying. I literally had to write the music and then hope it sounds good with the rest of the song when I export it, because it lagged too much for me to hear it properly in FL Studio. Countless errors and glitches came up too (one of them disallowing me from exporting a song properly, forcing me to export it instrument by instrument), but I managed to finish all of the soundtrack.

Anyhow, enjoy this song. It's one of four songs which I made for the game, which I'll probably be submitting later on. Enjoy!

Pretty good tune here

~~REVIEW~~
ok so its been awhile since i reviewed anything from you but must admit this was pretty good the sounds are very sharp and clear and its nice to hear something very soothing and pleasent if i say so myself, its not a wild tune but soothing and plays along very well to each note and so on, so in that aspect of things i really liked it, notbad at all, now for improving i think its perfect, maybe more build up around the middle but really not needed, anyways great piece.

~~THINGS TO IMPROVE ON~~
some mention of build up but again i think its just perfect as is.

Step responds:

Haha, I didn't even notice that you reviewed this! Sorry!

Anyhow I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm not very good at soothing songs but somehow you managed to find this soothing so I'm happy :3.

I tried to avoid doing too many buildups in this song simply because it was intended as a background track and if it has too many mood changes and buildups, it'll get in the way. Having reviewed so much Flash, I'm sure you understand what I mean.

Thanks for reviewing!

Adventurous Town Theme For Sure

You say it to be busy, you're right. It does sound a bit busy, but it's great. To me, it sounds like one of those towns you'd come across in the middle of your quest.

Surely better than anything I can currently muster up. But hey, practice makes perfect, right? That's what I'm aiming for. Little off-topic there. Anyway!

Great town theme, sounds adventurous as well, something you'd maybe come across in the middle of your quest. Loops perfectly in my opinion. To be honest, it may also fit a -city- theme instead. It has that potential... To me that is.

Hope to hear more.

Step responds:

Thanks for the detailed review!

"You say it to be busy, you're right. It does sound a bit busy, but it's great. To me, it sounds like one of those towns you'd come across in the middle of your quest."

Ah, it's good to see some people are actually thinking this sounds like a town theme :3. The town in the game was meant to be a town which you stay in where you can do all sorts of stuff like go to an arena, continue your quests, etc... With that in mind I tried to make that 'hustle and bustle' sound of a town, although I still think I did make it a bit too busy :P.

"Surely better than anything I can currently muster up. But hey, practice makes perfect, right? That's what I'm aiming for. Little off-topic there. Anyway!"

Haha yeah, very true. It took me well over a year before I could make songs like this :P.

"Great town theme, sounds adventurous as well, something you'd maybe come across in the middle of your quest. Loops perfectly in my opinion. To be honest, it may also fit a -city- theme instead. It has that potential... To me that is."

Well, the people who were making the game I made this for were happy with it so I guess I shouldn't be complaining :P.

"Hope to hear more."

Great, thanks! Feel free to check out my songs Legend and Journey to the Afterlife for somewhat similar songs, those are much less outdated than this one :P.

Thanks again, I appreciate the insightful review!

Great town feel

Kind of enjoy reviewing audio a lot but I can never make awesome long audio reviews like you. Maybe we should collab on that sometime or something. Joking aside this actually sounds very classy and has a medieval town feel to it I think. That or could be used in a really weird music video I suppose which would be funny or something like that. The way the tune flows seems to be great and it loops without failing to skip a beat which is good to see here.

The tuba sounds great and I like the orchestra effect it has. The guitar and strings seem to combine into one and make a beautiful beat for a sad looking town wishing to be rid of their problems and thus a hero steps forward with an egg sandwich and eats it while getting a sword and preparing to get rid of the problem.

The piano sounds pretty good here. The flute was somewhat random but I enjoyed that. Lastly the drums create an excellent backbone for the song.

Overall, this is a great classical composition. Was it ever used in the game?

Step responds:

Hey, thanks for dropping a review man!

"Kind of enjoy reviewing audio a lot but I can never make awesome long audio reviews like you. Maybe we should collab on that sometime or something."

Haha, maybe so. But I don't write reviews. I write essays :D.

"Joking aside this actually sounds very classy and has a medieval town feel to it I think. That or could be used in a really weird music video I suppose which would be funny or something like that."

Music video? That's one of the more original thoughts xD. I'm glad you think it has that town feel to it. Some people think it's a bit too busy for a town theme.

"The way the tune flows seems to be great and it loops without failing to skip a beat which is good to see here."

I was told to loop every song I did for the game, so I'm happy I had success in that department!

"The tuba sounds great and I like the orchestra effect it has."

I think this is the first song I ever did which made use of a tuba. I'm glad I used it - as you said it fits really well.

"The guitar and strings seem to combine into one and make a beautiful beat for a sad looking town wishing to be rid of their problems and thus a hero steps forward with an egg sandwich and eats it while getting a sword and preparing to get rid of the problem."

That is *exactly* what I envisioned when making this song.

Well, minus the egg sandwich :D.

"The piano sounds pretty good here."

I'm a pianist myself so I love using pianos in my submissions. It's such a diverse instrument.

"The flute was somewhat random but I enjoyed that."

True, maybe I could've used it a bit more throughout the track rather than at the end only. Thanks for liking it though :P.

"Lastly the drums create an excellent backbone for the song."

Great! I've never made drums of this style before, but I'm quite proud of them.

"Overall, this is a great classical composition. Was it ever used in the game?"

Nah, they never actually finished the game, even though it was nearing completion and was coming out really well. I was a bit pissed about that because I spent months working on the tracks... :(

But thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate the insightful review!

ummmm

do you mean everquest? it sounds different, still i love it!

Step responds:

No, I mean Eternal Quest :P. That's the name of the flash game I made this for.

Thanks for reviewing. Glad you like it!

Very Good, but can be better.

I like your classical style mixed with movie and chinese feel toward the middle. The town (if you have seen this movie) has the same sound in their soundtrack as you do. It sound extremely professional as if in a recording studio and I respect that. I was just wondering what software are you using and is there a mac version. I also make music but I have no idea how to make it sound like a recoding studio. I really love what you do I have many of your songs. I am a cello player so I was thinks of adding either a better background bass and cello part or putting a violin solo. Either or both of those would make the song sound like an actual orchestra and give a more intensifying feel. Out of all of this I hope you take that your song is great but there is always room for improvement. I love your songs and keep going like this. I hope one day you and I can work together on something. Great job.

Also I am only giving this a ten because your original idea was great and was fun to listen to. Keep going.

P.S.: I am not sure whether this could help you because I don;t know what your were trying to go for, but I hope it helps.I know its for a game but I don;t know where in a game. Besides all of the bad comments, you did a great job. Great work you got here.

Step responds:

Hey, thanks for reviewing!

"I like your classical style mixed with movie and chinese feel toward the middle."

Yeah, now that you mentioned it, this does have somewhat of a Chinese sound to it, maybe because of the flute part. That was unintentional xD.

"The town (if you have seen this movie) has the same sound in their soundtrack as you do."

No I haven't seen it. I'm curious to hear the soundtrack now though.

"It sound extremely professional as if in a recording studio and I respect that."

Wow thanks. That's quite a compliment!

"I was just wondering what software are you using and is there a mac version. I also make music but I have no idea how to make it sound like a recoding studio."

I use FL Studio 10. Unfortunately FL Studio isn't available on a Mac, but it's not really a problem, because FL Studio (and any other DAW for that matter) is just a bridge between your mind and your music. There are plenty of other programs out there like Cubase, Reason and Logic which are all available on a Mac.

What makes that 'studio sound' would probably be the VST I used, which is East/West Symphonic Orchestra. It's expensive, but really worth it, because of its really high-quality orchestral instruments.

Hope that helped ^^.

"I really love what you do I have many of your songs."

Awesome, thanks! Really great to know there are people who enjoy my music.

"I am a cello player so I was thinks of adding either a better background bass and cello part or putting a violin solo. Either or both of those would make the song sound like an actual orchestra and give a more intensifying feel."

You know, that's actually a really wonderful idea. Unfortunately I don't have the project file anymore because it got corrupted though...

"Out of all of this I hope you take that your song is great but there is always room for improvement."

Yep, I agree, this has quite a bit of room for improving. It's an old song and looking back I'm spotting loads of things which I could've done better in.

"I love your songs and keep going like this. I hope one day you and I can work together on something. Great job."

Thanks!

"Also I am only giving this a ten because your original idea was great and was fun to listen to. Keep going."

Will do!

"P.S.: I am not sure whether this could help you because I don;t know what your were trying to go for, but I hope it helps.I know its for a game but I don;t know where in a game. Besides all of the bad comments, you did a great job. Great work you got here."

Yeah it helped! I appreciate the supportive feedback a lot! Thanks again.
