A few things about this song, before you go ahead and rate it a zero (please feel free to use your eyes & brain and read):
1.) THIS IS NOT THE COMPLETED VERSION. I want feedback.
2.) I will put the finished version out here once I do get some decent feedback.
3.) I'll take feedback on anything, but I especially want advice on getting the damn thing mastered. Everything I create is either too loud or too soft, and this falls into the latter of the two in my opinion, especially for drum and bass. So please, if you have ANY knowledge to offer me in the way of pumping up that bass/volume without any humming, cracking, blowing out the speakers, etc., please enlighten me.
::::::::::::::::::
And here's a few more tidbits about the song, in case you're interested:
- It's made with FL 8, if you couldn't have guessed. So there's something else I need to know there:
Does this song sound like it was made with the FL engine? And, if so, how can I improve it so it doesn't sound so generic? (only if it does; please lemme know!)
- This will be my current opus as a song because automation, I found out, is a sexy, beautiful thing. Therefore, you aren't helping me if you rate it a zero cuz then practically nobody can enjoy the full, mastered version. Don't be an asshole, and if you are, remember karma will punish you one-hundred-fold. Trust me: I found out the hard way. It sucks hairy goat testicles to get pwned like that in the future for past idiocy.
- I know, I know. "IT'S NOT DNB!!!" Okay, well, just give it a listen...It takes a while for it to kick in! I know my shit now; I wouldn't put it in this genre if it wasn't. Really, if you wanna get critical with it, it's more a combo between trance, metal, dnb and 3-step. Just listen first before you leave your comment. If you think it should be labeled as something different, then please:

- Like my song Peril: T-Minus, this song is purposely created to appeal to the quick-listening audience and the long-term audience. If you don't like what you here immediately, then wait. There's really no rush to review or vote; it's not like you can get experience points from it anyway. Bummer!

Love this

Nice and FRESH music keep them comeing...love your beat...10/10 /// 5/5

If this is the feedback version...

then the final version had better make me pee and jizz in my pants at the same time. This is incredible!

mr-jazzman responds:

Lol not so incredible as some of the stuff I've been making recently. If you like Dubstep, go check out Reflections! =D

Quality, not loudness.

I'm not sure you're aware of how loud this song actually is. Much louder than it should be really, feel free to turn it down and get rid of that clipping.

Anyway, a decent track but the clipping and loudness make it too crowded in parts where it shouldn't be. I like the piano score a lot and I love how much variation there is overall. The beat is a bit weak though, and it sounds way too robotic, especially the hats. I think the percussion should vary between each bit, like use instruments for different sections because that snare doesn't work well in some parts, for example in the piano breakdown.

I could tell this was produced in FL after I recognised a couple of effects and synths but you used all the instruments pretty well so I don't think it matter for this track.

The mix, like I said, is pretty poor with all the clipping. I also think a lot of the instruments need EQ'ing so they don't feel like they're fighting for the same space in the track.

In a nutshell, great ideas and arrangement. However, a bad mix. But I guess that's something you pick up over time.

mr-jazzman responds:

Lol I'd check the date that thang was submitted my friend...and also note that it's the feedback version! =D

My skills have greatly improved since I submitted this song. I've learned how to get rid of essentially all of the FL-ness of the songs I've been producing recently. Yes, I understand the EQing is improper, and ultimately this isn't what makes it feel "competing," but in fact that the mix is improper.

I can't wait to show you some of my new stuff man. And I can't wait to redo this song, because it does have great ideas.

Thanks for the review, even though I believe it was slightly overly critical at points. No problem though, thanks for the pointers.

Nice

Really cool, you use FL Studio 9 for this right?

mr-jazzman responds:

yes sir! please check out Peril: Distant Star to hear the full version, as this is just the "feedback" version lol

Drum 'n' Base

The thing about music is you got to keep the noise effect range to a minimum, i know it sounds wrong but try it, and add alot of Bass to drown out other noises (apart from the drums) heavy bass is awesome - leave out the techno if u use piano too

mr-jazzman responds:

Yeah, I know by now lol. This song was released a while ago, and was also the "feedback" version (where I wanted to people to comment before I released the final product, which is now out there; please check out Peril: Distant Star). Since then, I've come a long way, trying to fit every sound in its own denomination in the mix. Thanks for the review though, as this is helpful to view what needs to be improved upon in words! =)
