no slapstick, just sleuthing

Today's prompt is "intrigue."

I wanted to build up on a previous idea that I had that was unpolished, but instead of it sounding funny, I was going to have it sound just a little less ironic and slapstick-y. Also, I wanted an excuse to play drums, but I'm physically unwell at the moment -- and technically, while my electronic kit can record MIDI, I wasn't in the mood for lugging this computer over to another room just to record drums, and probably mightn't be for a good while. So I programmed basic swing cymbals.

Fortune cookies are clues for sleuthing your destiny.

Sleuth: The city. A hollowed out cesspool of ill reputes. Everywhere I go, crime happens and the flatfoots are either too stupid or too corrupt to bat an eye. *Inhales Cigarette* And yet it still has it's charm. A guy like me could easily be content with some cheap whisky and cheaper smokes. I was on my way to get some when I met her. Red dress, long slender cigarette holder and a small handbag. If I wasn't captivated by her beauty, I would have noticed the gun she was hiding inside it. Luckily for me, she's a terrible shot and I am quicker on the draw.

Whenever I hear sleuth music, I find myself in a noir era world. Call it a guilty pleasure of mine.

Great!

Hat, ride, and piano really nail the sleuthing, but idk. Maybe a bit too heavy on the reverb? Hope you get to feeling better!
