The third entry in my “platformer concept” drawings (slightly edited in Paint.NET), which I think is to be my nicest one yet. The level trope for this one is partially based on the animated 1995 television film The Wind in the Willows; as it is located on a river, featuring Tab riding down the river in a boat, like Ratty in the film. There is also a tree that has some drooping branches of plants (it is not a willow tree, though). This picture has lots of detail in regards to the scenery. Lots of shading used here, although there are some “illuminated” areas for where the fireflies are. Despite the lack of a sun and visible sunlight, I was going for a sunset/dusk background, which explains the shadows of the scenery even though the sky is on an evening setting.
As with the color version of Platformer Concept 2, this one was illustrated in Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. A lot of detail was put into this, because I was experimenting with different brushes for the grass and water particles, and used a combination of two coloring techniques. The first, being the "watercolor painting" technique I used for my colored version of Platformer Concept 2, has been applied to pretty much everything here besides Tab and his boat (colored yellow). (Which I think helps--the aforementioned Wind in the Willows film has a "watercolor"-esque visual style with its characters and backgrounds, which I was trying to replicate.) Tab and the boat, in contrast, have more solid colors, shading/light reflection, and black outlining (the second coloring technique). There are some changes from the original namely with Tab's actions/facial expressions and the design of the boat and the bush on the right. I also was able to get the (originally intended) sunset sky background this time. Everything else is the same from the original drawing.
