Reviews for "Imperil"

this game is really fun, and is a really good combination of easiy and challenging. except for the final boss, i have no idea how to beat it! someone help?

The special move changes every section. I personally don't like this inconsistency. I dislike how there aren't enough special moves to make this feel like they should be changing all of the time, they simply feel like they exist only because the plot demands it. And I'm using the word plot in the loosest sense possible here, it seems that the story of the game wasn't well thought out, or if it was, I could find no evidence of it.

Combat is trivial. I mean that it is easy, especially in the fire stage, and also that it's pointless. I managed to run around half of the enemies, and the rest caused me no problems at all. I could probably run through the game killing only the final boss if I wanted to. Maybe it was intended to be that way, however, this doesn't work with this style of game in my opinion.

There doesn't seem to be enough impact when you take damage, I didn't really feel like I was losing out by taking damage, possibly due to the easy nature of the combat. Also, I felt that invincibility lasted too long after you take damage. These together meant that environmental damage, like spikes, felt just meh. I didn't really care that my character was running across spikes, so didn't bother trying to get off of them.

No pause button. Simple enough, it should be a must in this kind of game, in my opinion.

Finally, key bindings. These may be the most unintuitive key bindings that I have ever come across. They felt wrong. I kept wanting to hit space to jump, and the attack and special move keys should not have been J and H. I haven't bothered playing through a second time, as I dislike this game that much, so can't comment on ZXC, however I wouldn't use those with WASD, and I don't like using arrow keys. I may have been able to get used to the controls if the game had been longer, however it took me less than 20 minutes to complete it, so found myself not caring about learning the keys, and getting frustrated by their poor placement.

Need a pause button, and it would be great if we could use all of our powers for the last part.

The best game I have ever played.

Impressive game you had here. It had me entirely engrossed playing this till the end but I expected the ending to be able to have me utilize all the powers to defeat the boss well despite that it was a good game. I like the ideas of being able to use different powers with relevant level design but I was expecting to be able to utilize two or more powers in some levels but nonetheless it was good game. It has some flaws but it was great playing it all through out.
