Reviews for "It Came From Outer Space"

It's really difficult to dodge bullets not because it's difficulty level but because of mechanics. You can't speed up scoring and it takes a lot of time to go from new game button to actual gameplay( this kills fun of replaying it). Nice graphics. Ok sound. Nice idea but not everything worked.

RaveRadbury responds:

If you're having difficulty dodging things, try crouching. It halves your hitbox, but it also halves your score!

Great game, gives me a Retro vibe! i like how you can Hold Jump to set how far you want to jump, the artwork and Graphics are eye freshening.
Three problems that i would like to be seen changed/Fixed
-The Crouch Sprite of the player needs improvement, or is it supposed to be like that?
-The score board at the end, after playing a few times, i would like to be able to skip it? and just give me the final score instead of watching it increase overtime, if you know what i mean.
-The Playing Area where the player can Move around, if you expand it back to the left a bit, it would be great!

Never beat the red tank yet, and the powerups are great! :D

tl;dr
-Crouching sprite needs some looking into
-Wider Playing area
-Ability to skip Score board at each play through

RaveRadbury responds:

-The crouching sprite is meant to be humorous
-I'm not sure that much can be done about this without seriously affecting desired gameplay, but I'll look into it.
-I'll see about putting this in the next update

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

This is almost great. I like the art style, the music, the humor, all that stuff, but the actual gameplay is the problem.

First off, everything is cramped into the upper half of the screen. While I appreciate the dialogue at the bottom, I have no way of reading it because I'm to focuses on the action.

Also, the player character takes up too much space, I feel. It gets to the point where there is physically no way to avoid what is coming at you.

I dunno, maybe I just suck. Either way it is a decent game, just not an excellent one.

RaveRadbury responds:

The dialogue is for the person who's watching you play! We wanted to encourage hotseat multiplayer.

Keep on trying, there are a lot of ways to improve and get better!

The controls, even after remapping, feel awkward and foreign. Fix the controls and you have a hit.

RaveRadbury responds:

I see that you've run into the same problem that we have! There doesn't seem to be a good keyboard layout. This is why we suggest using gamepads. Let me know if you find a layout that works for you.

Not a bad game but the medals are broken to all hell.

In order to get medals to work for ONE PLAY you have to go to Credits, then press Delete, then press Backspace, then reload the page (F5 or click the reload button or click in the URL and press enter)

Then and only then the very next game you play will be able to obtain medals. Repeat this entire process if you want any medals at all. The second game, third game, etc after that you can't get medals unless you do it all over again like that.

This means you have to get absolutely everything on a single play, which is damn hard and frustrating. "I'd Like To Thank The Academy..." medal impossible to get as that would require at least TWO plays back-to-back!

I can't get "The Player Knows Best" to work at all and presumably that should award merely by changing the controls. I go with WASD for movement jumping and ducking, then use up and down arrow keys for gun aiming, and right arrow key for fire. It's hell on the right hand ring finger but it's really one of the only sane keyboard mappings.

I have no idea how to get "Now You're Playing With Power!" so I don't know if I should have earned that medal already or not. I have fought using the machine guns and the spreadfire as well as the gun activated by using the Best Gunfire oscar, so if one of those was supposed to unlock it, it didn't.

That's essentially three perpetually broken medals, with the rest of the medals only obtainable using the workaround in this reply, and only on the first game played after using said workaround, do absolutely everything in one go.

Also why in the hell don't the controls remain as you put them? If I go into change controls and I change the controls, those controls are only good for the very next play and then right after that they're back to default controls again.

The default controls are really weird.

Graphics and music are good, and overall gameplay is okay, if you change up the controls or use a gamepad. You really need to work on your medals code though. All those changes claiming you'd fixed medals problems? Nope, you haven't! And this makes for a very irritating playing experience when it shouldn't be irritating at all.

If anyone knows a workaround for "I'd Like To Thank The Academy...", "The Player Knows Best", or "Now You're Playing With Power!" I'd love to hear it. My workaround above should work for all the medals *except* those three.
