Reviews for "Land of Enki"

I found this game to be okay. I did not like the controls. If you're going to move with the arrow keys, then you should be able to jump with them too. I didn't think the designs were anything that good. I would have preferred if you just jumped on enemies to kill them. Then again, people might claim that was a ripoff of Mario.

The music's fairly nice. I can't really get much control out of this guy. I wish I could kill the spike guys. They at least SEEM like they're alive, not that that's stopped people from not killing them before. I wasn't even motivated enough to get a medal.

TheEnkian responds:

Fair enough, the game may not appeal to everybody. Thanks for giving it a shot though. Honestly, the carrot spikes were just animated because it was nice to have them animated rather than them actually being alive.

The musician, Lloyde, reads these too so he'll be glad to hear you liked his tracks!

Nice game. Nice controls. But not enough challenging. And the price of items are too high in the last world. I had the ultimate sword before I could offer the 3rd sword (and had to go through all the levels a second time to farm enough to buy it).

TheEnkian responds:

We actually nerfed the game a little before releasing it by making hearts easier to come by and so on in case it was too tricky, but it seems that made it too easy rather than having a good balance.

Music and graphics in game is OK, not bad, but not good. Story isn't original, a lot of games have similar story. Control is easy. The medals are hard to obtain.

TheEnkian responds:

Well yeah, the medals aren't meant to just be handed to you. It's not an achievement otherwise, is it?

This game feels average at best. I'm writing this in full knowledge that a sequel has been released by now, and I decided to play the first to get an idea of what I'd be in for before playing the next. However, I feel unimpressed by this. The controls felt uncomfortable, I feel that using the up key instead of space to jump would have been a better option. The graphics and the story are nothing too special, and the gameplay feels really slow and awkward. The first boss, Pigasaurus, had an extremely predictable and uninspired pattern and was easy to defeat, though I don't understand why I couldn't hurt it while it was summoning monsters. I hoped that at least experimenting with the new weapons would improve gameplay, but as the medal suggests (as well as the shops I encountered), all of the weapons are just upgrades to the sword. I spent all my money on bombs because they were far better and more useful than the sword, so I never bought the other swords, but if all they do is increase damage, then why have the option to switch between the old swords? Why not just keep the new one? There are many design flaws that hold this back from being an enjoyable platformer, but it just doesn't grab my attention as it is.

TheEnkian responds:

Up wouldn't work for jump because then it'd make vines and ladders incredibly awkward. The controls have been changed for the second game though and people seem to like them a lot better. There are definitely a few design problems with the game, but a lot of them have been fixed for the second game so I hope you'll give it a fair shot.

Thanks for your review!

The levels were boring. Collision detection was garbage. Music was just ok. The only reason I played through it was to get the story so I can play the second one.
