Reviews for "Cosmic Clicks"

As with most 'clicker' games, after about the third tier of upgrades, clicking is kinda pointless. And the cost for parts rises too fast for high numbers.... the 100th Beam, for example... Go watch a movie waiting for that. The graphics were pretty simple, which is fine for this sorta game. Though I was slightly disapointed when the stars in the background didn't change. The jokes were enough to keep me playing, but seemed to use up most of the funny early on. Music was pretty decent, but got very old... mostly because of listening to it for so long.

DarkTimmy responds:

Thanks for the review and sticking with the game. The response here has been great and it's nice when people take a moment to constructively appraise my games. It really does help. I should share my list of 'concerns' about the game and they are nothing like what people are asking about! HAHAH I'm glad the game is out and it does give me a chance to learn and improve! Thank you again and if you feel like it - keep an eye on the Donley Time Foundation! I promise we strive to constantly improve! Best, -Tim

Psssst, i ll tell ya a secret about why cookie clicker is boring - if u use this tip to better up your game, u ll b on the winning side ;)

... After getting the third or fourth upgrade in cookie clicker, just as in your own game, clicking becomes rather useless. Let the player reach 75% of sps (speed per second) by clicking, maybe by having to puchase some upgrades - this will triple his "income" when he plays actively. This is something cookieclicker and your game are not doing at the moment, so the "will" to actively play it simply isnt there - instead players go afk for good. No use of active clicking.

DarkTimmy responds:

Thanks for the response and I hear yah. I had a bit of a time thinking about what exactly I wanted from the user's direct clicking experience. Do I want AFK or active clicking. I did opt more towards the AFK thinking and to balance that out I shortened the game and added dialog.. I don't disagree that active clicks are, well, active! hahaha. I wonder if I do this again I can go along the lines you are talking about or differentiate the active from the passive clicks for purchases. Hmmmm. Interesting and something to think about! Thanks for the writeup and the play! Really appreciate you taking a moment to comment since all feedback means a lot to me! Best, -Tim

Now THIS is how you make a cookie clicker clone on Newgrounds! Back in my Planet Clicker review, we saw how NOT to do it. Fortunately, Cosmic Clicks delivers the goods. Why would anyone make a free game that rips off another free game? I say why the hell not! The gameplay is every bit as good as Cookie Clicker, and the characters and humor are fresh. I personally worked the tech tree from back to front and didn't particularly regret what that did to the story. X3

Everyone even remotely interested in game design should play Cookie Clicker, Planet Clicker, and Cosmic Clicks, in that order, for a textbook example of the DOs and DON'Ts of firing off a Me-Too entry into a popular new genre. New Theme = Good. New IP = good. Missing Features = Bad. Shit Programming = Very bad. Increased wait time in a game based on waiting = deal-breaker. Cosmic Clicks succeeded in every way that Planet Clicker failed.

Best of luck to DarqTimmy. Now I need to go check out Boss 101, see what these guys were up to back in the day...

DarkTimmy responds:

Thanks so much and really glad you like the game. I will be frank and say I didn't know how this would be received. I mean, I liked it and enjoyed making it. haha. It was very nice to see others enjoyed it too! I heard about some clicker games but in many ways I just made Cosmic Clicks and didn't check too hard on what else was out there. I do admit to loving the click games though!

Thanks again for the nice review and the comments, Really made my day to read it along with all the other nice reviews. More to come for sure so look for info on Boss 101 sequels as well as a possible Cosmic Clicks sequel!

Best, -Tim

I really enjoyed it. However, I did have 2 issues, one small, the other not so much. the first would be some more background changes. Maybe have a set distance across the galaxy? Second, saving. This may be a local issue, but whenever I exited the game it didn't save my progress. Other than that, it was a good game, I liked the dialogue and upgrades.

DarkTimmy responds:

Hey! Thanks for the rating and the comment. I agree about the backgrounds! A few more certainly wouldn't have hurt. Next time around (if there is a sequel) there will be more 'travel stuff'. As for the saving. That is odd. The game does save locally in your browser cache and I wonder if you are getting it cleared each time you play. To be clear - your saves are not stored at Newgrounds.com. Anything like an ad blocker to a program like Sandboxie might block the save. I don't know though - I'll check into it. I use an ad blocker and things seem OK. Hmmmm. Thanks so much for the rating and the play! I really appreciate it! -Tim

Brilliant! The wit! The sarcasm! The geeky references!

I have to tell you honestly, my good fellow: When I finished, I ~really~ feel like I accomplished something - like I could go out and conquer the world!

DarkTimmy responds:

HAHA! That is an awesome comment! Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun making the game and it was a blast to write the dialog for Steve and Max. I am happy the game is resonating with some people since it was a really fun game to make. I appreciate you taking a moment to write and REALLY thank you for the play! Best, -Tim
