Reviews for "Cosmic Clicks"

A clicker that isn't entirely mind-numbingly boring. Nice use of dialogue to achieve this.

Even better, you made a clicker that doesn't require you to leave it running for days on end in order to get everything.

Well done.

DarkTimmy responds:

HA! Thank you! You're totally right in your assessment. I didn't want a super long clicker game but I LOVE the clicker idea. Cosmic Clicks is a nice homage to those game with some story in there to pass the time in a (hopefully) fun way. Thanks for the rating an the comments. Happy to hear you liked the game! Best, -Tim

This is a good start to a game, but as it is you don't really do anything except leave it to run in the background -- assuming you don't mind leaving your computer on for several days straight. In the end I got tired of waiting hours to get an upgrade (that price curve could use some heaving tweaking) and used Cheat Engine to speed up the game to see if anything ever happens (no). I quite enjoyed the upgrade banter, but not so much that it would have been worth hours of actual "gameplay" between jokes.

Now, if there were some kind of trade element so you paid for your upgrades with money rather than speed I think this could be turned into something really good. For example, choosing runs based on speed to account for spoilage, obstacles to warrant the sensor upgrades, danger for shields and weapons, computer upgrades to contact different races, and change hull strength to cargo capacity. Now that's a game I'd enjoy playing.

Even without turning this into a cargo trading game, it could be greatly improved by tracking distance travelled and having a final destination with fixed encounters at set points with damage destroying random upgrades if sufficient effort isn't made to upgrade hull, shields, weapons, and sensors while making all non-engine upgrades a drain on power rather than adding to it. Once again, this would require heavy tweaking of the cost of upgrades to encourage replay value. Ideally I'd like to be able to complete this kind of game in under an hour if you want me to play it again to get a better score with appropriate medals awarded for completing the journey within certain time periods.

DarkTimmy responds:

All of those are fantastic suggestions. A few of them were considered and a few more may make it into a sequel to this game if I do one. Love what you are talking about and I can't disagree. Cosmic Clicks was one of those game I 'felt' my way through on the first run. It was mos-def a balancing act to get the features in and not get bogged into adding a lot of new stuff since there always is 'just one more idea' you can do which may or may not delay the game a little longer. You'd probably cry if you hear how long the original was before the initial value tweaks! HA! Way too long I say! As I said though - love what you are saying! Thanks for taking a moment to write and to rate. I really appreciate you and the others who come on here to offer some ideas and suggestions. Great stuff and I do read all comments! Best, -Tim

i saved and exited the browser and when i opened the game again i had to start over!
how do i acess my save data?
but great game.really helps pass the time.

DarkTimmy responds:

Hmm - well, if you clear out your cache you will lose your save. Other than that it should be safe and secure. I'm not quite sure what would cause it to go away. All the save data is put in your browsers local cache though. I saw you rating and thank you for that. Also, thank you for the nice comment! So glad you enjoyed the game. Best, -Tim

Dat Boss 101 on the 4ยบ Hyperdrive xDDDDD

DarkTimmy responds:

HEH! Yeah, You know he had to make an appearance in there somewhere. Heck, he might even be back for the Boss 101 sequel. Thanks for the rating and the comment! Best, -Tim

Strangely good.
The art-style is good as always. Music is really great. Gameplay, well, wasn't meant to be there much. But still it is interesting enough to keep you engaged. I'm not much a fan of "click and score" type of games but still I finished the game in one play. The only thing is it gets a bit... well.. a lot repetitive. But hey, that's what it has to be like. The dialogues were really humorous and cleverly written and that's what drove me the most to finish the game. Moreover, the medals are a good addition.

Art-style & graphics: 5/5
Gameplay: N/A
Music: 5/5
Storyline & dialogues: 5/5
Overall: 4.5/5

Another gem by the author. Keep up the good work.
Really very happy to know about the Boss 101 sequel. All the best!

DarkTimmy responds:

HA! Thanks. I hear what you're saying too. I think the Steve and Max stuff really helped a game that might not have been as compelling to some people. It's certainly not as deep as the traditional cookie clicker games but it does have those guys. Also , thank you for the nice comments about the art and music. I did get fortunate in finding a track which just 'works' well with the game. Overall, I'm quite happy with how this worked out and glad people are enjoying it!!! Best, -Tim
