Reviews for "TCT RPG"

okay

the game would have been better if i could use the mouse.

It would be epic if it delivered

So far, I can only rate the game for what I got, which is 20 minutes of Earthbound nostalgia, hours of endless grinding frustration, and a promise for an epically long RPG that wasn't delivered.

After the first boss fight against a STOP! sign, you can't do much of anything else. You're given a teaser of what to expect in a possible TCT RPG sequel, but never given a definitive answer about whether or not the game will continue or end, just a girl in the school telling you about some sort of sign, a warning from an out of order vending machine, and a mysterious fog that prevents you from exploring further.

After killing tons of monsters, running dozens of laps around the entire game world, which consisted of a single town and its outlying forest, and talking to everyone and everything in the game ten times over, I've concluded that you really should have put a proper ending on this game.

A simple teaser, anything to give closure to this apparently incomplete game.

By the time I was content with being completely unable to progress further, I had amassed a ridiculous stockpile of goods from the local store, thousands of dollars, and a definitively large level of my "I did not enjoy this at all" stat.

One of the few ups that I can give for this little minigame is the chuckle I got when I first heard the battle entry sound. Of course, it got really annoying after my 200th Raboid battle.

Grawsie responds:

It is a full game, and the game world consists of plenty more then one town, you've barely cleared 10% of it.

I'm not sure why going up in the school is so hard to figure out, but you need to get to the cut scene in the school before you can advance.

Like Earthbound but... Well like Earthbound.

Anyone forget they weren't playing Earthbound while playing this game? I certainly did.

Although a little heavily "inspired" by Earthbound, This game was certainly good in many ways. The fight system was consistently fun to use, bringing back the timed reflex command system from D'sova RPG and upgrading it. The flower system did allow for character customization, making it so that you could outfit your characters to your own fit. The enemies in this game were difficult but not impossible and didn't baby me throughout the game, which was good because I am not afraid to fine tune my tactics and level in order to get the satisfaction of victory over difficult odds. The bosses were difficult like they should be and required tactics to defeat them, most often by exploiting their weaknesses while reinforcing your own defenses.

There are some problems with the combat although nothing major. Mostly the only real problem is the mass of unnecessary slots (Seriously what the heck was with the puzzle piece system anyway?)

As plot lines go I believe I had already made my point earlier in this post. The first quarter of the game plays almost exactly like the beginning area for Earthbound. No real subtlety is used to bring across moral points here as children are painted out to be wonderful and awesome and parents are all alien-ruled uncreative dullards with only malicious intents or sheer apathy. Despite taking creative liberty with it's primary source of inspiration (Earthbound) it coyly avoids going where Earthbound went which kind of weakens the strength of TCT's story a bit. This game had to potential to get really fucked up but it never made anything of the opportunities. Earthbound was by no stretch of the imagination a dark or gritty game but when players had their fill of comedic antics, character development and general happiness, it got serious in a way that can really catch a person off guard. One moment like that I am speaking of is the truly infamous Gigyas. The final boss released by the final boss is a giant fucked up fetus monster that blows the main characters minds into chunks by quoting lines from rape and revealing it's true form. Heck, the ending was still happy but the monster was most literally terrifying enough to make a real impression on the people who played the game. If there was anything anyone remembers from that game the most, that would be it for a large population of gamers whom played the game. It wasn't as if that was just a strange mind fuck moment in the series either. Each Earthbound game had their moments where they sat down and got real serious, ranging from post apocalyptic futures to real deep meaningful moments. So I guess the point here I'm trying to make in this comparison is that a game can adventure into uncomfortable areas and dare go places most games wouldn't go and still keep it's optimism and light hearted atmosphere.

I still liked this game though. It managed to capture that kind of personal feeling of childhood in it's story and I like that. If anything this game was good, but it has ample room to improve. I know from reading the blog a sequel is in the making and here is to hoping the sequel is dark and serious enough to really draw us into it's story without losing it's charm.

I give it a 6/10 for being fun and having a charming story but not being edgy enough to really bring the story to it's full potential.

Waiiit!

It looked kinda cool... and then I got a black screen and nothing happened...
Um.... pls fix? :D

Grawsie responds:

Not sure what happened, I suggest reloading and trying again, if you still get it note me when it occurs and I'll look into the issue.

Ive looked into the whole story line

Its not original at all you took the Plot and storyline from EarthBound on Super Nintendo and Killed it im Highly Disappointed i knew this was going to turn out to be Exactly like earthbound when i found the girl named anna and she said something about "The Others" controling little things like animals to adults and taking over the World well in EarthBound where the plot began was "The Being" controls pets and things and Adults by taking over the world,You took the Plot and story line from EarthBound and twisted it around.

Im giving you a 3/10 and 2/5 im Very disappointed....and after you made a decent RPG a year ago you come back to give us a Plot&StoryLine thats already been made....all i can say is that the art is good and characters

Grawsie responds:

Actually the simulraities to Earthbound are mostly superficial, if you keep playing you'll see the story is very unlike that game, and the nature of "the others" is very much different then that of Giygas.

If you look a little deeper this game about much more then I think you're picking up on, so please don't let your bias fool you.

I love Earthbound and definitely wanted to make something with the same creativity and feel, but the story is very much all my own, and if anything a re-imagining of some of my older comic works (see Avatars on my site if you want to know what I mean).

I could explain further but I don't want to give away any more spoilers.
