Reviews for "GemCraft 0"

ManticX is right

Fantastic game - up to a point. The game does not conform to the important rule of there being more than one way to be successful. Around wizard level 14 (for me) the game became an exercise in finding the exact right way to win. There was so little room for variation on strategy after that point it becomes a chore.
I also think there was too much choice with skills, or at least the choices were too expensive.
Too cumbersome and narrow to be truely enjoyable.

No title, you're reading the review anyway.

I really like how people are taking a new look at the overdone genre, and this one, like the others, had some interesting results. However, this one failed in execution.

Firstly, I found myself spending more time trying to achieve the perfect color than actually defending against anything, and I've usually lost the game by the time I could destroy the one monster beacon that was being a pain in my side. Having to place towers separately is also a waste of time, I would've thought that came with the gems.

Secondly, why did you lock some of the skills? This is Newgrounds, not Armor Games. Making us go to your site to get a part of the game only shows that the users of Armor Games are annoying pricks. Please take your game and leave if you are going to mooch.

Thirdly, there wasn't a lot of variety to the maps. Granted that I only got through the first levels, but the most change I saw was in the types of gems you were allowed to use, which only meant that one strategy was useless in one type of map and excellent in another. This adds up to a lot of wasted, boring time spent on coming up with a dozen different strategies, all of which trigger the first problem.

Overall I think the system needs to be fine-tuned before it becomes a "Gem" of a flash. I hope to see these improvements in Chapter 1.

I also hate Armor Games. Do not advertise.

so hard ????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

first : i'm french and i'm not a good english level .
i'm disapointed ....
i love the first (?) gemcraft 's game and i rate it with a big 10.
but ... i don't understand why this one is so hard and (in a same time) boring and i don't understand the way you purpose to do yet to have a confortable kind of playing ! i mean you konw i want to say something very simple : i love the sound when i kill a monster and here suddently i was swarm by monster too strong and too fast and that was incredyble : i have no pleasure too do it :-( ....
but i'm hard me too i love your game (the first) and for this i'v give you a 6 and don't forget i love kil your monster !!!!!!!!

Glitch makes the game slow.

Great game! However, FOUR points docked for making a slow game.

Often, when playing the first level, you CANNOT GAIN XP AFTER PLAYING THE LEVEL AS YOUR COUNTER IS STUCK. This means you often have to grind on a harder level, giving slower XP for the fledgling stages of the game.

Otherwise, a great tower defense game.

No where near as good as the first.

First off I want to say that the first Gemcraft is probably my favorite flash game of all time and I always find myself playing it over and over.

With that being said I want to make it clear how disappointed I am with Gemcraft 0. I have been trying to find the right words for why I do not enjoy this game but I think there are multiple reasons.

For one, the game is hard just for the sake of being hard. The original Gemcraft was challenging, but not unfairly hard. Gemcraft 0 is unbalanced in my opinion and plain not enjoyable. The gems take to long to activate, the monsters are too strong to early in the game. In short, the learning curve is far too steep.

The new trap system is interesting but can become frustrating because it relies heavily on how lucky you are with receiving the right gem in a randomized game. I miss the old water traps.

The random tiles that prohibit construction in certain areas are stupid and pointless. They are frustrating at best and do not add any element of fun what so ever. Who has the extra mana during early game to waste on a level 3 bomb? Not fun at all.

On a positive note I like all the new modes of play offered. Great change.

I loved Gemcraft which is partly why I am so damn disappointed I am not equally in love with this game. I have been waiting anxiously for a sequel and I just feel flat out let down.

Please don't stop making these games but please try to recapture the fun and excitement of the FIRST gemcraft. This entry in the series just doesn't have it.
