Reviews for "Across the Universe: Ep.1"

ohh

there's another flash called across the universe ...
do a research before giving a name to any flash
so u don't give it an used name

crystalpencil responds:

Yes actually, Ive seen that Flash in the past. And its really good!
But I named my series after the Beatles song, so that was my main aim.

Not bad

But not that great. The animation seemed rushed. Voice acting was mostly passable, except that final character, which was awful. The 3d parts were done well. I can't really comment on the story since there wasn't much of one within this piece and I haven't seen the other animations that this goes with. The music worked, didn't really stand out though. Character design was clean, though somewhat generic anime. There's no point in attacking someones work based on artistic style, but anything generic will always rub me the wrong way.

I feel like I should explain the rushed animation comment. There seemed to be missing frames. It was as if you just story-boarded it then just took the character drawings from the board and statically moved them around the screen. This is excepting the movements that where done with simple tweens of course. "I was just screwing around" is a valid explanation and there's every chance you could have done better but just wanted to get it done, but that still hurts this piece.

Interesting.

Good story, and fantastic use of suspense. I really like where this story is going. However, I must say that I dislike your animating style. Your animation itself is pretty fluid and decent enough when it comes to non-characters, and the opening scene in particular is incredible.
What I find difficult to handle, though, is that your characters are "cartoon" while most everything else is "real." If this was something light on story, such as a stick figure battle or the like, then it would be negligible, but not with an animation like this. When you're developing characters, trying to make them seem like actual people, it is very important to make them seem as lifelike as they can be. It needs to be as easy as possible to relate to the characters, and that means having them look, talk, act, and move realistically. Your characters, unfortunately, constantly remind me that I'm watching a cartoon. In the sequel, I strongly suggest that you make more detailed and fluid characters. Such devotion to everything else is amazing; just apply youself as much to your characters.

WTF xD

Nicely anitamed in most ways. Figured you either did everything in photoshop and imported it into Flash or worked with some else program. Many nice effects anyhow.
When it comes to the sound... I'm not into thoose "Gaah" "Eh?!" sounds, at least when they're used this much. Would've preffered him saying something to himself then and then like "What the hell?" instead of giving away thoose sounds all the time.
And besides that I didn't receive many chances to get dragged into the story. I'm sure you have a plan for this, however I think you gave away too few clues.

Great work though :D

could have been better.

there was very little flash and the parts that wern't flash we kind a sketchy and i would say that you need to animate it more and dont worry so much about it looking good. the main character when he was drawn, looked good. stick with that.
