Reviews for "The Necronomicon 2.0"

Big improvement, yet...

Just to be clear, I enjoyed the first version of the game and I enjoy this version even more. That said, I still think there is too much chance to too little strategy. My best suggestion would be to gain the ability to make your own deck. This, however, brings up the fact that who would put the little cards, 3 mundane damage for example, when you could stack the deck with at least 7. Make it so there is balance; every deck must contain a certain amount of monsters, arcane damage, mundane 0 insanity cards... or perhaps make it so you have a certain amount of sanity to pay to make the deck, so game-winning cards (mainly those with high insanity costs) can't be stacked. This is otherwise a good basis!

I never thought...

that I'd end up playing a card game from 6AM to 10AM when I damn well shoulda been sleeping!
This is by far the most addicting thing I've played in a long time. I come from years of playing Magic: The Gathering on and off, and this was right up my alley. Plus I'm a bit of a passive fan of the Cthulu mythos (I read Simon's Necronomicon front to back for starters so I got most of the references). Very nicely designed.

I felt like the instructions were a little vague and it took me a few rounds to figure out, but I can't hold that against you since I was dead tired when I started. What really got me is that the opponent would do the most asinine things, like playing cards that work only if I've got a creature out when I've got nothing sitting there, or stealing my effects when all I had was a ridiculous taint. So the AI needs some serious work.
Other than that, I can tell that there a lot of strategic design was placed into how the cards were worded, however the wording on a few of them was so vague that they often had unpredicted effects, like the global dispel card banishing all the creatures as well? Again, once I figured these things out it wasn't too bad, but I can see how that would frustrate some new players.

Just to conclude this review, I wish this game could be played competitively. I guess that's just not an option with flash, but what a shame.

Fantastic project, once again. Thanks for the hours of fun (so far that is, because believe me I'm coming back!)

Better

It's better than the 1st one but still not perfect...

Interesting Application of Lovecraft - A Card Game

Didn't think it would be good but after playing a few levels it gets pretty addictive, the levels of difficulty, finding new cards, and insanity. Anything anybody could want from a card game.

I agree with bigpoppa64 of course it could use some refinement. And I would enjoy seeing this on Steam as well..with a big graphics enhancement with shiny buttons and what not. Being a fan of HPL I love the ambiance of the environment and atmosphere. Also I was listening to Sulphur Aeon's Swallowed by the Ocean's Tide while pwning my opponent and it was exciting.
