Reviews for "Gekisen card game"

no strategy in this game whatsoever

I like the general idea of this game, but without at least some semblance of an actual deck (as opposed to cards being randomly generated), there is no way to have a strategy. For that you would have to be able to make up your own deck that has some central theme to it. With this you just have to work with what you get (which is good for tactics), and what you have already gotten has no bearing on what you could get, which removes any possible chance to effectively plan ahead.

Good game, good gfx, addicting- but a few quibbles

I really wish I could get in touch with the author, as the "community" part of the game is gone from his website.

The game itself is quite addicting, despite a few flaws that have mostly already been mentioned in other reviews. Shortest game I played was (1) card - I had (4!) "More damage with combo" cards dealt to me, and the Enemy was obliterated with one stroke! :)

OTOH, the LONGEST single game I played was over 180 cards! And if you get tired of the slogging, and hit Page Reload on your browser, it says "you fled your last match!" and gives you a loss. A "save this game" or "Resign" would be nice, or even "re-randomize the deck"!

The graphics/humor is pretty well done; every time I see the "Fumble (last attack is reverted)" card I have to laugh. Although, the cards are really only "seeable" in 800x600 resolution.

Two great flaws in the Tournament (OK, three):

o You can't keep your reward (Gain offense/defense/health points AND still play a card during your turn) and reuse it indefinitely in subsequent games; you use your bonus once and then it's gone.

o You lose, you lose your belt ranking - a better idea would be that you have to fight 1..2..3..4..5(max) Training fights before trying for another Belt increase after you lose a Belt trial.

o Your LIFE points go from 120 to whatever you had after defeating the last opponent - if you had 8 health, too bad - that's your max unless you get the +5 -> Max health card. That's a bit much!!! (So during a Tourn, NEVER play the "both your lives are Halved (Epidemic) card!!)

o (Ok, four, sosueme) - you have to win SIX FIGHTS for a lousy couple of bonus points?! See below!!

If you're using XP, the savegame is a .sol file stored in a path similar to this, without the brackets: (and replace ! with . to get around the NG website filter)

C:\Documents and Settings\[blitzmach]\Applicati on Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\xxJPGTPG JP\www!urbanprophet!com\gekise n_d.swf\[YOURID]gek.sol

Those with hex editor experience could possibly alter their stats, as well as give themselves "prize" (tournament) awards. You have to know how numbers are stored in the file though.

Default belt: 3F,F0
Yellow belt: 00,05
Orange belt: 40,08
Green belt: 40,1D

The order makes no sense (to me) but that's all I'm giving out. ;-)

Good Game

Aside from every1 else's gripes (misspellings, too many dead cards in hand/too many cards that are so situational as to be dead in hand 85-99% of the time, not enough damage cards [this 1 i don't agree with, as it adds more stratagy to the game], the max life total for the special event is reset for each opponent [as is your status of hazumi generation, regen, etc--make up yer mind! 1 or the other], etc), my additional gripe is that the numerical values for bleed, poison, & curse are black text on a black background, for both players! Never a good idea… It's the 1st thing u learn NOT 2 do!

Pretty cool game, with a couple bugs

I rather dig on this game, but there are several things that need fixing:

1> If the opponent plays a 'discard x cards' card it makes me skip my draw instead of him discarding.

2> The 'reduce opponent's defense to 0 for 1 turn' card is practically useless, because the opponent's defense returns to its previous level on my next turn, when I would play the attack card.

3> The 'play 2 cards after this card' is a little screwy - I have to hit the next cards I want to play several times before it finally registers.

4> Plenty of spelling errors. The word 'loose' is rampant - there is only one 'o' in that word. But this is just a personal gripe and it doesn't really take away from the game.

5> The game could use a bit more explaining. In tournaments it would have been nice to know ahead of time that whatever your life score is when the next opponent comes around is your new max life. This game is very complex, and some things need explaining.

6> Sometimes the 'fog of war' counter just sits on 1 for like 3 turns in a row. That shit is annoying!

7> The 'red armor' card doesn't make sense - it does the armor score x2 in damage, but the armor still prevents its score in damage. Why not just have it do the armor score in damage?

8> You should make in clear what cards are attacks (thus preventable by armor and cards that prevent attacks) and which just cause damage. Same thing with other effects - sometimes increases in offense/defense/hazumi still occur while cursed.

9> Why does stunning my opponent prevent him from bleeding while stunned? The only thing that stunning an opponent should do is prevent him from acting, but instead it just skips his turn entirely. Bleeding, regeneration, etc. should still happen.

10> This game would be great with deck design and unlockable cards. This way you could increase opponent strength with better cards instead of just increasing their health to ridiculous levels. However I understand that this would probably be insanely difficult to implement.

I know, long winded. But I do seriously dig this game and would like to see it brought as close to perfect as possible.

How many turns before I get an attack card?!

All in all this wasn't a bad game. Like most other card games I have played this follows the same style, which wasn't too bad. My only complaint with this game is that there were rounds where I would not have an attack card for five or six turns. That is absurd in my opinion. We were both dumping cards because there was nothing to play. That really needs to be worked out in some manner. If you work through that then I will give this game a few more goes, but until then I am going to go bald from pulling out my hair in frustration. Well done, just a little tweaking.
