Reviews for "16Bit Star Wars"

cool

very good sprite movie, the backrounds look a little wierd though

DeadByDawn responds:

Thanks. Yea I actually hacked the backgrounds up to better suit my needs. The part where luke finds the storm troopers was hacked up bits of the frozen planet and the jungle planet that Yoda lived on.

Not Bad

Excellent job on this movie! But I must say, because you ripped the sprites from the SNES systems, which are 32 bit systems, shouldn't it be called 32 bit Star Wars?

No matter.

I LOVED the fighting sequences! They were very smooth and unflawed, but I must point out, when the lightsaber cuts through human flesh, it singes the veins etc. closed, so there is no blood! (Excluding the Aqualish race.) But still, I enjoyed the force sounds from Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2, and Luke really beat up those baddys. I enjoyed the storyline, a bit plain, but enjoyable none-the-less. The path choice is why I gave interactivity a 5, it was the only thing, but I enjoyed controlling the outcome.

Now for a few minor point outs:

-When the Galactic Empire was defeated, the Rebel Alliance made it the 'New Republic' it was no longer a Galactic Senate.

-Luke claims that he could not handle the entire Imperial taskforce on his own when he called for Han, but Han ended up staying in space, and at the end Luke slaughtered the task force single handidly.

-'Imperial' is not spelled 'Emperial.'

-A 'W' is lowercased when it should be upercassed in the credits.

-If you plan on using a soundtrack that revolves around the original trilogy, please use the original trilogy soundtracks. (good job on the Imperial March, though)

Overall that is about it. Great job!

9/10

DeadByDawn responds:

Hello and thank you for pointing out my mistakes. There were a few more actually then what you pointed out but all in all it was a good animation for my fourth attempt. I do have something to point out however. The Galactic senate was reinstated after the demise of the Dark Lord. The Senate is actually just a form of government used by Lucus to point out both the good and the bad points with democracy in the real world. Luke was able to destroy the entire fleet and army because of the fact that the power of the Dark Lord was creating an illusion of so many forces. This is the reason that the remainder of the remnant "turned tail and ran." I however reallized that this was not pointed out well enough in the story. Also I chose to use the John Williams overtures because I felt it was a more powerfull piece than just using the Darth Vader theme or the Imperial <=== spelled right, march. I also chose across the stars as the ending piece because it was more suited then just using the traditional star wars ending. I also wanted to point out that I am not George Lucas and am in no way affiliated with him or his subsidieres. This was the reason for the change. Also the use of blood in the fight sequences was more for the Newgrounds community. I felt at the time that carterizing the enemies wounds would take away from the action that a lot of people here thought the animation lacked. However all in all this animation was for the hardcore Star Wars fans like yourself who can point out errors like the ones you pointed out. I very much thank you for your review. It takes time to type what you did and I thank you. Oh and the name 16 bit star wars is correct. Super Nintendo used a variety of bit rates in their games. Such as, bubble bobble used 8 bits, while Super Star Wars used 16, while Contra used 32 bits. This can be checked at Cherryroms.com if you doubt me. Thanks again. DeadByDawn

Good animation, but Im a Star Wars nerd so...

The story...I guess if you don't know about SW, its mildy enticing, but...the SW nerd in me hates it. The sprite animations were MASTERFUL, so good job. but...grr...thats NOT what happens..i mean, why would the Imperials be on a planet that Tarkin ORDERED them to leave? oh well, good job ;-)

Excellent!

It was amazing, definately going under my favorites. But, however, the ony thing that bothered me was all that bood whenever Luke had cut someone with his lightsaber.

Star Wars Sprites!!!!!!!!

The best sprites ive seen yet. And i hate sprites! The sound effects were way too loud. And voices would be cool too. But It is already good. Did i mention i hate sprites?

DeadByDawn responds:

Hey thanks a lot. This is actually my first sprite movie. I had no respect for sprite movies before I did this but now after literally months of work and thousands of frames of animation I am a believer. It is cool that you didn't let your hatred for sprites degrade your review of my movie. You have my thanks.
