I think someone else actually plugged Vlad before you did. That one almost made my list but for some reason I didn't... I gotta watch it again now. But when I saw it on your list I know I was like "Oh I already watched that one."
I'm not planning at the moment to have prizes for SERIES and ARTIST...
The games category was a continued eye-opener...
I would like to see the general NG forums take more interest in lifting up the smaller submissions
Someone plugged Vlad before me? Curses. Well when you get over a thousand submissions I suppose there is always the risk that one that I picked could be chosen first. Not that I have high expectations of winning in the movies anyway (anymore) but DO I enjoy trying to post all this stuff I collect and hopefully raise the profile of the artists that did them a bit.
You don't have to ask me to imagine how many games are lost in a year Tom. Every month that I listed had at least 1 game in them. I think in the start I didn't really collect them but I do now. I'm pretty sure I got a good 10%+ in games consistently now. I prefer movies over games but there is great stuff hidden that I found very enjoyable time wasters for awhile.
I also know about losing animations. I recall one that was about a bunch if beings who's purpose in life was to set themselves in fire to be a birthday message for someone. Another was a being trapped in a box and had to use his heart to get out. A third was a monologue of a bounty hunter. All left deep impressions on me when I was just starting out on NG and I never forgot them but I can't find them anymore. Another one was a sprite movie that seemed to use custom sprites only. It was singing some Asian song. "Si-mo-rie. La mooooooorrruummm" was the refrain (as near as I can recall/pronounce it). That one was just around when I started my list. The song always stayed in my head along with another animation that I saved. I was positive I had saved it but I can't find it for the life of me. That makes me sad cause it was a great song and great animation. I can't believe I didn't save it/notice it was gone until now. It was going to be an example of me saving stuff.
One thing I WAS able to retrieve was "Die in Style", the best stick death game ever created (the type where you pick the death and he dies). Totally random, it just turned up on the flash of the day list. IT was deleted but with the title I was able to google it and found it on another website. Such a great game.
I didn't realize the latter 2 categories were non-prizes but were mainly for discussion. That's a great potential idea, actually. I hope that generates discussion. You know. I never looked at the blogging feature before. Perhaps I'll put up my lists there. They are kind of musty in my email drawer.
Oh, I also have another idea. Why not have a collection of the monthly winners? That's what got me to start on collecting every month. I save the 5 winners. I save the link to the page of the 5 winners so that I can also have access to all the runners up and then make my own list of about 30 entries that I enjoyed. You should make all these pages into a collection because that is a great way for a new reader to look back and see what was considered the best of any given month.
Game: Here is another hidden gem of a game. It was on the first list I ever made. It's weird and spooky. Easy to play though. Despite the bad controls and no sound effects. It could have been better but I liked it's creepy atmosphere and spooky visuals enough to give it a pass. The music doesn't have a loop though. A shame because when it stops the game is less interesting.
