At 11/22/07 01:18 PM, f0d wrote: actually the strike doesnt include animation writers. i dont know where she got that from but my animation teacher with limitless connections in the industry said that animation was unaffected by the strike, which is why we'll still get new episodes of cartoons but not other shows.

the studios should meet the writers demands, no arguments there. everyone wants their late night TV back. but apparently this strike won't affect animators one bit. we'll remain as overworked and underappreciated as always.

true that...

but quick question so when they say writers...does that include the writers of like..dirty movies (pro)

So there will be a flash project? I've written a script and drawn almost everything I need for my Writer's Strike Flash. I'd release it as soon as it's made which should be very soon but If there is a contest coming up then I'll wait for that. Can you please elaborate Tom?

I support the writers. Credit needs to be given where it is due.

Come February, if at&t doesn't agree to our Unions' demands, than all of the unions that are out of contract will go on strike. This would effect landline, internet, & wireless services.

Geez, I'm an actor, animator, comic artist... hell, everything I DO now involves writing. And with this strike.... I even considered the "Canada" suggestion. Well, Newgrounds itself is a statement: everything by everyone. I guess to support the writers, KEEP SUBMITTING AWESOME WORK. Keep it free, keep it creative, and keep it OURS.

...I kinda got lost in the moment there. Heh.

I don't know why people make a big deal about the strike. Maybe less T.V. will make people want to exercise instead of being married to a screen.
Tough talk from someone who just posted to an internet forum.

I'm not one to make a big deal about much of anything - additionally, I'm not a big fan of TV and I really don't buy in to the "celebrity culture". I'm just saying - I do like my movies, and chances are if writers don't get paid enough they're going to stop writing them. $2 for a box of pencils delivered to a media executive is a pretty small price to pay to uphold another American's right to do what makes them happy at a fair price.

That is not tough talk, it is being honest. If there are less shows on T.V, people will learn to exercise or do another activity where they are WITH OTHER PEOPLE. That's why I don't make flashes. I like to do forms of cardio and lifting weights and hang out with people. After that, if I have time, I like to come on here to see if there are new movies. You should try it sometime Karl! If people do that, the writers will beg for the executives forgiveness.

Hey all - thanks Tom for posting this and to everyone here who is showing support! I just updated my profile to include useful links and videos where you can learn WHY the writers are striking, and see some ideas on how you all can help. I hope you like 'em.

Thanks again, gang :-)

If you do it in moderation, it should be fine. But if your daily routine is watching tv until you go to bed, then of course you will be a fat ass. Maybe the WGA strike is not such a bad thing and will let some cast members write their own material. This is a fact, writers get paid good, so that they are upper middle class. Maybe if they are all homeless, then they will realize the mistake that they made.

ugh........... i really just don't like writers' strikes. Although i understand and support them because they want more pay for an understandably large amount of money that they COULD have taken the offer on and didn't . For those who dont know they were offered a penny per DVD sold, which they refused because it sounded ridiculous. 6 BILLION DOLLARS later......

Anyway, i really hope this doesn't delay the rest of season 2 and season 3 of Heroes, because that would just suck... hard......... I AM CONHOLIO I NEED TP FOR MY BUNGHOLE

Personally, I really couldn't care less who gets the buck for the crap I get, as long as I can keep getting it.... So, although I won't do anything to help the strikers, I still respect them. But I think their strike is wrong for one simple reason, they are striking against groups that should be destroyed not negotiated with!

Imagine, if all the writers just quit writing, not just went on strike, the large media companies will crush to the ground and the writers themselves can reorganize as new, better, and more original companies. I know it sounds too Utopian, but we are dealing here with a situation that the media companies can't win against as people will stop watching TV more and more, looking for other things to watch/do. And while the accepted capitalist order rots from the inside, the writers can look for creative ways to make money off the Internet as some people have done (Pure Pwnage is an example I believe). Where else will the masses go for mindless entertainment (I'm here, aren't I?)?

Anyhow, that's my two cents on the matter.

There are writers for reality shows, but theres controversy over weather they should be considered real "writers" or not because its technically a "reality" show

Response to Writers Guild Strike 2007-11-29 22:23:37

thats a penny per dvd per movie sold, which is 10,000$ per million copies sold, and concidering they did the hardest part of the job they deserve a lil more than that. And this isnt about dvds its about the internet its completley unrelated

i think the best way to describe would be... PETTY...
they are striking over INTERNET revenue... hmmm, what's that? 1.99 a download (battlestar galactica example) a dollar and ninety cents?! wow.. you could just buy a car with that... plus, they dont even earn all of the 1.99... the network takes a share, them im sure others take a bite before the writers get their... let's say .33? they are delaying my favorite shows over (roughtly) thirty-three cents?!?

that's just petty
