Baaaad news.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has decided to abandon net neutrality and allow telecoms companies to charge websites for access.

The FTC said in a report that, despite popular support for net neutrality, it was minded to let the market sort out the issue.

If any of you had procratinated in regards to speaking up about this issue, you'd better get your act together. You only have a few more days.

It means that now big companies will control the internet, rather than millions of small web designers. Bad news.

SHIT, I meant FTC. Federal Trade Commission.

I always feel like a typo ruins the entire thread.

The thought that internet providers can charge you to let you see a website after you've paid for access is complete and utter monopolizing bullshit.

I can kind of understand them charging a little extra to cover for faster, high-tec lines that provide faster service, but paying admission to websites will absolutely kill the internet. Hopefully no one will be willing to pay and the idea will fizzle out.

Haha, didn't notice the links on the page. My bad. I just thought "crooksandliars.com" didn't sound particularly trust worthy.

This seriously pisses me off. Looks like the future of the Internet is utterly hopeless and there's little if anything that we can do about it.

How can the government allow something like that to happen? Internet service providers must have a really strong lobby in the congress. or something.

No really, a small group of dedicated people should get together and make a second internet with a constitution that protects against this kind of shit. And people who owned domains will get first shot at buying it to avoid conflicts like http2://newgrounds.com getting bought by ebaums

yes, http2://

Our government no longer cares about its citizens. The "Republic" is dead, and as long as things remain the way they are, the rich will only get richer.

If you use them.

Google, I presume. I heard they were getting into telecommunications as well.

If the Internet goes into these predicted Dark Ages, I'd bet my left testicle that they'll be the most fair.

We need to be in this for the long haul ladies and gentlemen...

The rich and evil corporations have seized the high ground (the internet). If we want to win this war, we, as a whole, need to rise up against this oppression.

1. Post your concerns about the end of net neutrality on every website you can think of.
2. Spread the word... Tell your frriends, neighbors, mayor, congressman, local crazy cat lady, tell any who will listen.
3. Boycott the evil media companies.
4. Convince people that it is in their best intrests not to pay for a "faster website." If mere words fail to work, boycott their company until they listen.

This war will be a long and brutal one, but with the right steps, we should be able to succeed in preserving this internet we have come to love...
