Thanks for the tip. I'm hoping to start a new game in Sacred Stones tonight, to see about getting the trainees and actually using them. Then I'll see for myself.

Here's a tip for training them if your having trouble. When you get the Tower of Valni, Take TWO unarmed tank (anything with high speed and def) and a pegasus rider, a healer + whoever you wanna train. Put the 2 unarmed guys in a few spaces ahead and let the monsters attack. Attack with your newbie and then get your pegasus rider to rescue and pull back. Then heal from damage in battle.

Side note: Only do the first level of the Tower of Valni for training, the next levels are too large and a waste of time. BUT make sure to go to the second level for item whoring (example: check the map for any enemies holding killer or rare ranged weapons like the lightbrand and that dark sword, if not, then just retreat and go back to stage one for training).

Hope this helps!

For this reason I found SS too easy. You can just train whenever you want. Just like abusing the arena. But if a unit gets the kill it gets bonus exp, so weaken them with one unit and finish with a trainee.

The Tower of Valni is bullshit, it makes the game way too easy.

Response to fire emblem crew 2009-02-21 10:25:06

I usually play the game looking ahead to the last level, picking units and sticking with them. This time though I'm looking ahead to having the best units for pvp, so I'm not using any of my power ups like spirit dust, and saving them for the pvp.

I'm also leaving all of my good weopons intact. I'm also .using the areana now. I never used the areana in the other games because I didn't need it to beat the game, but in this game my people need to beat others.

So, all the characters I use in pvp I plan to have max stats in all that matters for them and max level of course. I'll be able to do that be abusing the areana, saving my power-ups and using only a few characters in the battle field.

Just thought I'd give you a heads up on my plans for the ultimate pvp team.

True, but the thing is its optional, you don't have to use it >.>... That's why its great! I actually like it becuase I like to class change my characters to see what they look like, and how strong they are with max level.

Well, I didn't even attempt the tower until I beat the game, and never thought of using it to level characters. I don't think the game is hard enough to have to use the tower, unless you messed up at the begining.

I didn't really use it much either. I don't abuse arenas as much as other people do either.

The real gain out of arena abuse is the gold, not the experience.

You could argue for either one, but experience is more important.

Arena abuse isn't that much of a boon either way considering there's only about two arenas in each game.

Wrong again, Doc. So far in the GBA FE I've encountered... 5-6 arenas. This also includes arenas on side quests.

Also, would anyone mind linking me to the official Nintendo site for SD?

Well, I'm pretty sure there's just two arenas in SS.. the one in ch. 5 and the one in ch. 11 on Eirika's side.

Grah. Loading so slow, it keeps freezing at like 20-30'ish % range.

Anyways, I just learned that using support is actually really useful. I thought they were really minor stat upgrades, but it's actually very good if you do it right. If you support with people who cover up your weaknesses, then that char(s) can be really threatening.

Can you support in Shadow Dragon? I didn't see it in the tutorial.

I think they did, I'm at chapter 12 and I've seen no evidence that you can support.

Well... you have to put chars next to each other. Not any chars, only compatible ones. The game keeps a tally "ok these chars have been next to each other x turns" when a certain number is filled the support option shows up. The number carries over to the next chapter as well.

Does anyone notice how they always give you a level one paladin at the start of each game? I hated that when I got my first FE game, because I would use him for everything instead of leveling my other chars, and then I found out he sucked balls.

They always do. And noobs always fall for it. See, they just sap up all the exp. Gets like 3-4 exp for each kill. and when they level up, they get like +1 hp every time. Such BS. Those lvl 1 paladins are always shitty chars. Best served as a human shield :P Take his weapons. Let people attack him and let the others kill the enemy for the exp!

That's actually a good strategy. I might use it in SD. But Jagen, the paladin they give you there, has pretty low Defense.

And Offense...
And HP.

Jagen sucks so hard, don't use him unless you want a meat shield. The general rule of thumb for most prepromoted units is that you shouldn't use them. However later on in the game you'll get two guys named Sedgar and Wolf who have helluva great growth stats for prepromoted units. They're great when turned into generals. Along the fact that Jagen sucks, play the original one where he was called Jeigen, I heard he was even worse.

Unless your kidding, you must be mistaken. wendell is one of the worst. My level 3 merric had better stats than him when i got him and he's just a mage. I admit I did use him at the beginning though since he was stronger than my former healer. Just until he could be replaced though.

I forgot to get Merric on my first playthrough.

Which reminds me, I went way out of my way to kill a thief last night and forgot to get him AGAIN. Too late now. :(
