I want to say that it was because they wanted the day to be on the weekend so that they could have their wild party at the office. It's more fun to drink and be merry on a Saturday than during the workweek, which would have been the case if they had stuck with Pico Day being on its original date (April 30th is on a Monday this year).

I think they changed it to a Saturday so that more users would be around to witness it. If Pico Day was on Monday there probably wouldn't be that many people online until late in the afternoon. There might be more reasons.
