This is the official thread for Robot Day 2011 game discussion and submission! Talk about your works in progress, and when you're done you can post a link in this thread! Also be sure to tag your submission with "robotday2011" so we can find it in future tag searches.

The theme is anything involved robots. To be eligible for prize money and an award, you must feature original characters and audio must come from the Audio Portal or be used with permission and credit to the original artist.

Your game must be submitted on JULY 10th and your loading screen should include a shiny link to the Robot Day 2011 Page.

Prizes:
1st - $250
2nd - $50
3rd - $30

This is the game JohnnyUtah and I have been working on.

Working on a game right now!

Puzzle game, kind of like Red Remover, where you click away ground to lead a robot to a portal which leads it back to Earth. You can also use other robots as ground and rotate their centers of gravity, and rotate some pieces of ground, and you can only stand on some pieces of ground so many times, and you can only rotate some pieces of ground so many times, and you can only rotate some robots so many times, and-

Crap, this is going to take a while.

I too am wondering if there's a preloader or if there's any standardized logo to use as the link or anything.

I got Flash CS4 in case you need something converted to CS3.

May I suggest the Writing Forum? It's a bit slow, but there are some decent writers who'd be glad to dole out a script.

Despite the name, I'm actually good--Deft, and good!

Giving out reviews to anyone who wants them (exception: poems. I'll find you).

What about a Steve Jobs (Mac) vs Bill Gates (Windows) Robot duel? Where you make your robot with whatever side you are on and beat others?

I would make a game for robot day, but right now I'm working on one of my largest undertakings and I don't want to lose my momentum.

Good luck to all who enter! I'll be sure to be in this next year!

If anyone needs a quick voice actor for their game, I'd gladly lend a hand. I can also help with any story elements you may include in your game. I don't ask for any of the money if you happen to win, just a credit when you submit the file to the portal.

Here's my voice demo, feel free to shoot me a PM if you'd like help:

Where do you get the original Character to use for the game?

Cartman: Fear not everyone, Coon is here to save the day.
Man 1: Isn't that Bruce Vilanch?
Man 2: Careful Bruce Vilanch, there are super humans fighting right over there!

You'll find out on robot day.

Oh really? I didn't think of that way to discover the amount of people participating in this event ^^, good thing I have my time-machine in the garage to go back to this day so I can tell myself on beforehand whether there are any serious attempts at a game for robotday, if not I would jam a game together in 10 days and hope for the win.

At 6/30/11 07:33 PM, WhoIsTheCoon wrote: Where do you get the original Character to use for the game?

this question can be seen in different ways:
'The' original character: I have no idea what you are talking about
'a' original character to use for your own game: get them from your mind when you are inspired.

First off I decide for myself when to be serious and when to lol right in your face, talking about the usefulness of my post I've had enough people saying 'thank you' to make me feel I actually make a difference. You want to know whats worse than shit?
Its these people who read 1 tutorial about game design, copy some code write some own without foundation and come to this forum expecting us to fix the shit theyve gotten themselves into.
And if you are tired of mindless talk you should try shutting up yourself for once.
Its actually kind of funny how your simple flame made me think: I dont need this anymore. In the future I wont even look at posts that have the [AS2] tag or are from nubs. From now on I will only respond to high level stuff no matter how many 0-response post will have to go tough this forum. They are all yours m8

And you claim to know any better? I wouldn't know, you don't seem to have posted anything helpful.

You've said it yourself: 'I wouldn't know', so please don't talk about things you know nothing about. I've read allot of books on this subject and I know stuff and I didn't learn by asking retarded questions to other people, I've found them out by myself through a google search or trial and error. It's the own things you make that helps you learn, its not fun if somebody else tells you how to do it.

Oh, I understand now, I thought it meant that there were original robot day characters that had to be used in your game, but now I see that he means original as in your own.
Thanks for the clarification

It's funny how I can still type with no errors while totally smashed...I knew I had caused some shit somewhere on the internet, now I remember where! :/

Typing legibly while wasted is not a good thing...
