I asked my brother about his and he says it's got a bad lag... So I don't know if it's worth trying or not...

Type Peacecraft.derekp.com into IP line. This is hands down the best server I've played on, since SMP first came out. The lag is pretty non existence the admins are nice and friendly and there is plenty of anti-grief mods so you don't get your shit griefed. I just please ask anyone who plays to read all the rules near spawn and don't act like a dumbass, unless you want to get banned. We don't tolerate that shit.

Fuck yeah, I love minecraft. Right now I'm in the middle of building my first huge project, complete with complicated redstone mechanisms.
Also, has anyone heard of Dwarf Fortress? Notch said that it was one of the main inspirations for the game, and that he is basing survival mode heavily off of it. It's free, so it's at least worth a try if you're a fan.
Dwarf Fortress.. My brother plays that too. It looks way too confusing for me, so I won't even consider trying it.. Totally weird game, I'm content with just Minecraft...

Make a compass, it takes you to your spawn point.
Then mine straight up, and follow your compass.

Find landmarks, and put torches by them. If there are none (such as when mining) then create your own landmarks, or make cobblestone arrows in the floor.
That's what I do, personally.
I gotta figure out what I need for a compass... Regardless, I ended up deleting my game and am just starting a new one... Gonna do things differently this time and not get lost... :)
