I think you get TNT and put water next to it, then put another block next to the TNT and put what you want to launch on top of that block.

It doesn't work on Minecraft classic, though.

Theres a great shelter that will protect you from EVERYTHING, its some what like a guard tower and you make it out of preferably cobble stone. build 3 supports in a what would look like a triangle overhead, build them 5 blocks high then get on one of them and connect them by building a platform at the top of the supports, then just bo off and build a house on top of that platform and you can make it as many stories high as you want, since its 5 cubes in the air and the supports are on the ground the supports are the only possible thing that can be taken out, and since the platform is in the air a creeper cant come up and explode because your to near it, also i recomend using a ladder to get inside it rather than stairs so that monsters and such cant climb up.
