The Warhammer Fantasy Collab 2009-12-02 12:32:42

Fo Shizzle Peasants!

Following the success of the WH40K Collab which achieved front page status, we as organisers have decided to produce a Warhammer Fantasy Battles Comedy Collab!

1st Phase - *AUDITIONS*:
Produce a 10 second short (roughly), containing both a Warhammer related joke and show of your animation (we would like to see some movement) this must use characters from the Warhammer: Fantasy Universe such as Dark Elves, Orcs, Lizardmen, Empire etc etc - you get the picture. Provided your admitted entry, this piece may be used for the final Collab.

We will be very strong on our position of what's good and what's not, so please don't take rejections to heart, we will offer constructive critisism, and you may try again. (as many times as you like)

-TL;DRCreate a 10 second short, a joke and small animation, Warhammer related as an audition piece. (HIGH QUALITY ART & ANIMATION EXPECTED)
This process will take 2 weeks, after this, you'll be told if your in or out, participants may still opt to join at a later date, but will have far less time to animate.

2nd Phase:
Animate your ideas. If you are chosen to take part in the Collab, we advise you to post some general ideas about the scene you'll be animating. We will have a few authors collaborating in this Collab so, if you're in doubt or need some inspiration, your sources of inspiration are just a PM away!
We know that animators may opt to produce more than one toon. If the collab is lacking a certain race, try to come up with a good joke for that race.

-TL;DRChosen Members start animating your parts bitches!

3rd Phase:
Compiling. When we get to this process, one of three Organisers will compile the parts together and much mead shall be drank (beer for you modern types :D ). We will also be putting in subtitles, so make sure you save a script of your animation to avoid having to re-write it out.

Collaboration Specifications:
- Bare in mind there will be a navigation along the top or bottom or possibly side, so try not to do TOO much important stuff there (Kind of give yourself an imaginary border).

- White flash default colour
- 620x360 stage; NOT flash default
- 24 FPS (Frames Per Second)
- 20-30 second long parts (however, we are very relaxed about this, so don't worry too much)
- Please try to keep the amount of layers you use down to a minimum, obviously do as you would normally, but to many layers takes up a lot of space, just keep it in mind.
- ALL TEXT must be broken apart.
- Make sure you save your part in Flash 8 Format, this is to keep file size down as saving in CS3 format doubles file size.

***COMEDY PARTS***
- menu, credits, navigation, scene transitions and anything that is part of the general Collab will be made by the organisers - we're giving you all the time you need to focus on your animations.

Symbols:
- keep all of your library items in a folder labeled by your NG name.
- name all of your symbols in this format: 'NGname_symbolname'.
(For example, 'bomblu_Skaven_tail') this reduces copy problems.

Disallowed content:
- Porn, extreme nudity (Unless VITAL to your joke - if it is, send the idea and so on to 'thebomblu@hotmail.com' for a review of the content.)
- Sprites.
- Stick figures.
- Stop-Motion. (unless unfucking believably good)

And now...

I would like to add that I reserve the same right as the project manager:

I am guessing you mean, if you hate a script, you won't do it?

Can't say fairer than that.

I generally work on a piece based on the animation, so I know they'll make the best character judgments based on the material I provide, y'know?

I very well understand the ammount of freedom we as animators, authors and voice actors have. The statement might have been a tad too harsh. I believe a certain ammount of improvisation, however, could very well lead to the joke being much better than when written down (i'm mainly talking about voice actors here).

But for now i think all the animators should focus on having an entry piece for the auditon as, without that, he or she would not be able to participate ;p

For the sake of fairness, yes, each animator has to produce his little audition animation. Remember, we consider this audition as part of the final collab (obviously, if good enough) so you may very well have your 1st collab part in :)
It's just a 10second clip, but keep in mind that this time round rules are going to be slightly more tight to get the highest quality out of all of you.
Small tip, your stuff's good, just try make the movements more fluid - other than that *wink*

Couldn't agree more. Sorry for sounding harsh. But a good script definitely is a must. My engineer friend and I were mocking one script I had to use because, it was so poorly written, however because I had already agreed to the project I was obligated to complete it just as well as any other.

And what.. 8 months for me to figure it out?

We do have a sort of roll over bonus from the last collab and don't have to start completely from scratch

Was there a due date there? If there was, I missed it. I might do a better part without being slow if I am allowed to make a part in January/February. I shall audition whenever I feel I will have time to work on something.

The earlier you post your audition, the higher the cances of you getting into the collab. I'm keeping someone like Phobotech in mind, who came in v.v.late but (in my view) delivered a great part. But, as i said, mainly because ofg size limit, the earlier you're in the better :)

As I've said before, I'd be happy to lend out an orky voice if desired.

Thanks for the link to me as well as to the other voice actors.

Feel free to hit me up for whatever you need, I use adobe audition 1.5 and 3.0, and use an AVG Perception 120 condenser microphone.

so guys, I guess since know ones posting much this is an opportune time to post this set of posts

I am completely idea less, because all of my jokes haven't cracked any lols out of tom or andrei.. so Im posting all of my character designs and asking YOU to piece together something actually FUNNY, using at least 1 of the characters.

I can always draw more characters of course.

and lastly, the wizard and dwarf. I had to double them up because you can only post like twice an hour or something.

this is my original wizard, the dwarf (see better image above) and chas.... the newb fire wizard I guess

Keep your hat on, remember the time zones :D (ps. i just woke up and it's still 9am here in Malta)

Yes, i do find this lack of activity disturbing; but more will come, after they've seen the new Playboy featuring Eowyn Horesmistress! (little tribute to the lotr one here on newgrounds :P)

I, too, am quite short of v.good ideas, mainly cos i'm sort of resorting to the same humour i used in the 40k one so i'm trying to refine my stuff.

Hopefully some more guys will join soon...

me personally....i would love to see flashbound to something with that elf character...be it woodelves or high or dark.

ONE THING tho:

flash bound is a BADASS animator...but in urlast piece withe the marine and the eldar, u had a kids voice doing the eldar warlock and it took a bit away from it...so if u need voices:

i can get u voices! just let me know!!!

cant wait to start this!

Testosterone doing it's magic then ;p Nah just joking, all you guys under 18 should enjoy your feminine voices for now - once you're 18 worry about manhood ;p

So, we've got Redharvest joining us again (lucky bastard for that wacom - but you've earned it with the work you've done in the past year ;] ) Flashbound, Forbid et moi. That's 4, around 8 parts...

Did it take this long to recruit ppl for the 40k one?

Maybe someone could animate this joke? I could do the voices if you'd like.

An orc captain was marching his entire army to attack Karak Eight Peaks, they were passing an old abandoned city when they heard a voice within the ancient city's walls: "One Dwarf is better than ten orc soldiers!" The captain was enraged and immediatly sent ten of his best troops over the walls while the remainder of the company waited outside. Then came the sound of a terriffic fight going on, soon all was quiet. Then the voice spoke again: "One Dwarfen soldier is better than a hundred orc soldiers!" Well, the captain sent hundred of his best men over the walls. Soon came the sounds of fight and then silence. The voice spoke up again: "One Dwarfen soldier is better than a thousand orc soldiers!" The captain was furious. He immediately sent the remainder of his troops over the walls save only himself. There came the sound of a fierce battle, and then silence followed by the sound of a dwarf laughing. Finally, one lone orc stumbled back from the battle and collapsed at the captains feet. "Speak! What happened?" asked the captain. The soldier replied with his last breath. "It....was..a trap..there's...TWO...of...them..."

We were criticised for not having original jokes in our 40K collab - i dont know about the co-leaders but i for one will not accept a simple 'rip off' joke in this collab, for the simple reason that we're trying to reach a decent level of originality.
