Haha, looks FAR better than the van-damme film anyday. Also, did anyone else think thier Avast! antivirus went mental at 4:50 of that clip? I was like 'how can youtube give me a virus, halfway through a movie clip?!?'

You'll be singing a different tune once you seen Owen Wilson as Ken on the big screen.

Yeah, but see, youre looking for people who resemble the characters, which doesn't make a bad film. Try thinking out of the box a bit. Try something pantomime, like all the male characters are female and all the female characters are male.

Gillian Anderson as Ken, Dawn French as Dan? Rose played by bill goldberg? Sakura played by Jack Nicholson?

and it should be set on the far off planet of Gorbamak MXVII with laser guns.

It can always be worse...

Somehow Bobcat Goldthwaite needs to be involved, and not as Blanka. He'd make a great Chun Li.

no, putting Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Carrot Top, and Jason Statham in a movie pushes it in the direction of "bad movie." you can't cast The Rock as Chun Li and say "there's your bad movie." it wouldn't fly. cast Dakota Fanning as Cammy, though, and you might get some funding.

You dont need funding. Its meant to be a bad movie. The less of a budget there is the higher the chances of it being a total flop. Thats not to say all big-budget films are great and all small budget films are crap though.

what im saying is, put less effort into making it good. ben stiller is ok in his own right, and so is owen wilson. even if the movie is terrible, they can still bring it up.

The problem isnt how hard they tried to make a good movie (talking about the DBZ movie here), the problem is their whole concept of what a DBZ movie should be.

Why not stay 100% true to the source material?

Who is gonna watch this movie? Fans of DB and DBZ... nobody else gives a shit. Keeping that in mind it only makes sense to stay true to the source material.

I mean... Watchmen and 300 stay true to their source material. The batman movies also stay true to the darker batman stories... I dont see why they had to change so much shit about the story; theyre just taking a shit on Akira Toryama as far as Im concerned.

I would say thats because 300, watchmen and batman are all graphic novels and comics. theres far far more source material to draw from. Dragonball, first and foremost is japanese. theres always gonna be that loss of translation for a western (and far wider) audience, second of all, most people will be comparing the movie to the anime and not give much thought on the manga. I understand what youre saying, but no matter what happens, theres always gonna be some loss when changing a piece of entertainment from one medium to another. Mostly because the original's the reason why people go see the spin off or sequel. I never have high expectations for anything made thats based on a different medium, that way I'm not disappointed. And occasionally, I'm impressed.

Well the fact that DB and DBZ was originally a manga being taken into account... how can you say it has less source material than comics or graphic novels? I dont see your reasoning.

I know that there might be a loss in translating this into a movie, but this isnt just a loss; this is the people that are making this movie taking way too much creative freedom with this and I dont understand why because they are ultimately making a movie that nobody will like.

I have full confidence that someone will put out something, sometime, as far as the collab is concerned. No one is worrying here. I'm probably not even in it. Anyway, on to the bad movie hypothesis...

Someone awhile back said that they couldn't purposefully mean for a SF movie to be worse than what was already created in it's name. They were right about this. I mean 'Bloodsport' already exists. It's bad, but endearing, in it's own strange little way. I would very much like the '300' people to tackle the 'SF' problem. Hyperbole doesn't seem to be a problem for them, and they find a way to make it look cool. That's capital these days.

I'm guessing that there were so many "bad" submissions that The Collaborators are finding it tough to put together.

i think it took 2 months for them to put the MGS collab together. they probably decided that there were too many decent submissions to do a smaller collab, tried putting it all together, ran into some trouble with flash + wanted to make good a intro and selection screens, played a little too much SFIV/RE5... plus, there's stringing it all together, deciding the order they go in, putting everyone's name on their entry...

the way you guys complain, it's like saying "well, harrison ford just filmed all his scenes, so the movie's going into post production tomorrow and Indiana Jones 5 should be out next week." it's unrealistic. on top of that, Johnny and Stamper have other shit to do, it's not like they wake up and work on the SF Collab from 9am to midnight every day. calm down.
