UK Fashion Stamps

Share

Another one of my university projects. This time I had to create a series of six stamps to commemorate the UK fashion industry. Here's a list of the criteria that I needed to follow:

- The stamps had to be 37mm deep but could be as wide as I liked.

- The stamps needed to feature the Queen's head facing inwards in one of the top corners.

- The stamp values needed to be 1st, 58p, 60p, 67p, 88p and 97p (but I was not to include the "p" in the design).

- There needed to be a clear visual distinction between each stamp yet they should work as a series.

I chose to concentrate my effort on fashion trends that started in The UK and keep it all tied together with a simple, uniform sub-graphic. The rest of the pieces are comprised of macro photography on a material/garment that I thought summed up that trend.

Please vote and review.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: The New Romantic stamp now has a rose in the corner and the contrast turned down so that the material stands out more. There is also a slightly different Punk graphic that is less dilapidated.

Nice art! Also I recently stumbled upon a thought-provoking article titled "The Pros and Cons of Fast Fashion" on https://julstory.com/the-pros-and-cons-of-fast-fashion/ . It provided a balanced view of the fast fashion industry, highlighting its affordability and convenience, as well as shedding light on its environmental impact. The article made me rethink my perspective on this industry, as it discussed how fast fashion can be an attractive choice for budget-conscious shoppers but also emphasized the importance of considering its ecological consequences. It's crucial to be mindful of our fashion choices and their effects on the environment.

If these were real stamps, they would definitely be on my mail...if I could afford them.

this is so cool!

Decky responds:

It was a fun project.

The Punk and Metal stamps are my favourites of all of these.
I feel like the Mod one is a bit plain, maybe if the green background was a bit more army-like it would work better.

Decky responds:

I know what you mean about a camo background for the Mod stamp but it doesn't feel as Mod to me as the dark green Anorak.

Wholly, your stamps are very nice, very chic; I especially like the dapper DANDY stamp. The PUNK, METAL, and COOL BRITANNIA stamps are also great. However, I also feel that the NEW ROMANTICISM stamp could use something other than the frills to sum it up, like maybe just a mixture of different New Romantic fabrics (that could just be me, though, since I'm not entirely familiar with New Romanticism and had to look it up). Furthermore, I was going to critique the MOD stamp but I noticed that all of your stamps have the off-centre trend, and I liked how the crinkled green of the shirt compliments the felty red bull's eye of the mod target, so I don't really have any suggestions for that one.

Decky responds:

Thank you for the review. I agree that the Mod & New Romantic stamps are the weakest and I too am at odds as to how to Improve the Mod one. The New Romantic stamp I'm thinking of adding a rose to as I'm feeling that it's a little plain.
