2016: What Happened?

Share

I, like many others around the world, have been shocked this past year at a great number of events. If it wasn't another celebrity death or a vote going in the complete different direction then predicted then it was another in a string of terrorist attacks or righ-wing rants.

So, I thought lets put pen to paper (well, mouse to hand) and see if we can get a half decent parody piece going. Something nice to round this crappy year off and seeing as the most light-hearted thing to rise to the front pages this year has been Donald Trump's gassy face, my hand's really were tied, I needed to draw a portrait piece.

I hope you all enjoy it. It's A3 so to read the text at the bottom you'll have to full screen and scroll down or, seeing as I'm nice, I'll copy and paste it below:

"Well, what happened there?!

2016 will be remembered as one of the worst years in living memory, best being resigned to the history books and sharpish. A relentless onslaught of celebrity deaths, ISIS, Brexit and, of course, Donald Trump. A year when the whole world seemed to throw their hands in the air and proclaimed "to Hell with it" and the western world revealed that just over half the population had turned into extreme right-wingers through a growing distrust of politicians.

There is, however, a light at the end of this fetid tunnel. A new and crazy time, approaching in the distance. 2017. Sure, Trump hasn't even began his memorable run in power and the UK isn't about to go crawling back to the EU, but who knows what else awaits us. We could start to really enjoy the downfall of it all. I don't know about you, for me it just doesn't feel like so much doom & gloom if you can have a laugh at the destruction and there's even a chance that things might get better.

So, from everybody, 2016. Goodbye. You simply won't be missed."

Despite being a Trump supporter I think the artwork is pretty nice. As for the message that's written along with it, I'm not gonna waste my time and yours by deliberating politics and opinions over the internet (and in Newgrounds of all places), but yeah 2016 was a shitty year.

The artwork itself is a pretty decent piece. As for Trump, I mean, everyone's still surprised, but at this point, it doesn't make sense to WANT him to fail, you know? If the American president does a bad job, then it will hurt the whole world. Why would anyone want to see him do bad job then? What happened, happened, the election went through, and every four years the opposing people freak out after our presidential election. "Oh no, the world's gonna end, the world's gonna end!" There's not gonna be an apocalypse, life will go on and people will go to work and go to school as usual. But, there will be some changes, and people are tired of the fearmongering and social justice attitudes going on in our country. In America, people nowadays forget that we're not just people living in cities and going to H&M to buy clothes. America is so different from coast to coast, and there's so many people that have been forgotten and left behind. Hopefully, we will start to change that. So, you can watch us from the other side of the ocean, and we'll see where we end up in four years.

Decky responds:

Thanks for the review. I'm glad that you liked the piece, at least artistically.

As for the political side of things I do want him to fail, I honestly do. The US doesn't have the presence that it once had on the world stage and his election will only led to a further distrust of the US amoungst the rest of the world, which can't be a bad thing really. I'm also of the belief that he has sexually assaulted people and should be brought to trial. Something that isn't going to happen when he's in power.

But it wasn't just Trump, 2016 was a hellish year and I'm glad that it's coming to an end. I still live in hope for a better tomorrow.

I love your "take" on Trump!

Being an American, he worries the "Crap" out of me! I worry a lot about the "downfall of it all". I hope we make it to 2020!

VERY good two dimensional art of a one dimensional SOB!

Decky responds:

Glad you liked it. Remember to vote 5, this has been a somewhat decisive piece and I could do with the votes. Not unlike the democrats were a couple of months back.

Best of luck with Trump, I'll be watching from the other side of the pond.

Well, technically, the guy below me is right. Scientists did bring back the bubonic plague and (I think) release it by "accident", but no one seems to remember this very often, so you're pretty safe in assuming when it comes to "living memory".

The piece is ok for a political work, and you got his likeness down pretty well. but the coloration killed me. Hair starkly contrasted the face, which sort of blended into itself.

Decky responds:

So they didn't really bring it back. People really aren't taking this piece with the humour it was intended.

Anyway, cheers for the review and thanks for the 4 stars.

2016 will not be rememberd as one of the worst years.. what about black pluage world war 2 world war 1. donald trump if not as bad as the nazis or the plauge

Decky responds:

Firstly, it's spelt "plague".

Secondly, you think the Black Plague was in "living memory"? How old are you? 650? The same can, kinda, be said about WWII.

Thirdly, "one of the worst years"....."one".....

Fourthly, what a waste of time writing that.
