Reviews for "Dear Edmund"

Civilians with STDs? Also, I am not a bugger!
The sound occasionally cut out for a few minutes.

Neat game with a lot of potential. It looks good visually, and the music is quite nice and fitting.

It's really quite challenging to balance street health, personal wealth and DAC favor, and I love it that way, although I think it would benefit a lot from having a gameplay reason to strive for personal wealth; upgrading your house is cool but the game doesn't really encourage you care about balancing your decisions towards personal wealth so this aspect can seemingly be entirely ignored.

Asides from that, it's got a couple minor bugs, nothing game breaking but noteworthy, such as footsteps continuing during workdays and week end screens, carriages appearing in my house (lol), menus overlapping from time to time. Nothing experience ruining, but definitely noticeable stuff.

It's cool that you can visually see the post office upgrades you buy in the street. The game appears to have quite a few encounters already, and I hope to see more added (which would probably require a couple more per workday to account for that). Perhaps even the occasional encounter in the streets, outside of work (although I might have missed those if they're present already)

All in all, great submission. The art and music deserve praise, the story and dialogue are pretty captivating, and the decision-making is difficult in an interesting way.

MindTheGrease responds:

Thank you very much for your feedback! street interactions and actions are something I’ve been looking into. Lots more corruption to be had out there!

I've just finished the demo and...i'm impressed. I really like the setting and the plot. The fact that you give a gameplay incentive to buy furniture so you won't live in complete squalor is a plus. I also like the fact that it's hard to balance health and being liked by the party. I almost forgot to praise the artstyle, it's very good and immersive.

Now, the things that need improving are:
1) i would love to have more meetings each week, i thought i had too few visitors
2) some non game breaking bug fix would be nice
3) maybe some more haunting tunes that ads some feeling of despair to the player
4) the only plot change i would recomend is changing the name of the party. Dominion of Absolute Control screams "hello i'm the bad guy", it would be more suitable and realistic to politics if you put a more optimistic sounding name like "Party of Progress" or something ironic like that, in fact the dialogue in general would be better if the party members didn't sound so obviously evil, i focus so much on this point because the intresting thing about politics is that they use a lot of manipulation that make the members of a political group do awful things while simultaneously promissing a glorious future, it's been explored by many books and it would be awsome to be explored in your game
5) maybe you have it planned already but the intro would be better with text and drawings instead of plain text
6) not a nitpick, but i would love more ethical dilemmas

In conclusion, i had a lot of fun playing this game and it has potential to become a great game. I wish you good luck and i shall anticipate it's completion with great hype. Have a happy new year.

MindTheGrease responds:

I appreciate your feedback. Point number 4 I do somewhat agree with, on a surface level I wanted a clear divide, but I do see your point. Perhaps future DAC characters can be a little more subtle..

Glad you enjoyed it!
Happy new year mate

sincerely enjoying this game, although it is moderately buggy across the board. onscreen prompts never seem to want to leave the screen, and the wrong shop screen will appear when trying to go to work or the post, sometimes when I try to go to work Edmund will disappear onto his home street, invisible, and unable to leave.... lots of little stuff like this happens -- not gamebreaking, and the autosave feature negates any hardstop issues, but it is odd. (Playing on Chrome)

I am really enjoying the game otherwise. I wish there was more to do in Edmund's home. I wish we could write back to Elsie.

Thank you!

MindTheGrease responds:

I’m glad you’re enjoying it!

I’ll send you a message regarding the bugs :) cheers

great gritty game that's depressing and kinda gives me Papers Please vibes mixed with 1984, juts finished the demo and the story is very captivating, cannot wait for full release!
