Reviews for "Harlot's Path"

I'm loving the world design.
Great dark story.
Nice scenes although some full screen drawings could use some more work to make em smoother.
The animations on the scenes are a little bit jumpy with parts of the graphics changing blinking out for a milisecond before the new one jumps in. Shows the distractingly hilarious face base sometimes.

After the end-game seems like some characters do not want to have sex again - need to use the herb on them and it seems to unlock them again. Not sure if it's meant to work like that.

Don't know how to unlock Debt Reduction - it sounds like the requirements might be very specific. Is it still possible later on?

Anno: Fail at Sex. I assumed this is related to not taking off panties, but it didn't unlock. Then I tried not taking off panties while erectified was on (to some hilarious effects that unfortunately do not have fitting descriptions) but it did not unlockit eighter. Am I missing smething here?

Take 3 baths: how? how? I took one in the spa and then they do not let me back in. can't seem to find any other places to take a bath.

I like darker stories, and really like compact maps that re-use the same terrain in different ways. I'm trying to think up even more ways to do this in the next game!

The image loading delay is only the first time the scene loads. Any replays will have the images in memory. I considered pre-loading all the images behind the scenes, or during the tutorial, but there's 522 images that all have to be loaded individually... line by line...

The 'debt' medal on the guard is likely an 'early-game-only' medal. You need to have a debt-card when you talk to the guard. The only way to get a debt-card is faint while having no money. I also fixed the Anno medal. You were right, just leave the undies on.

The 'three baths' medal is one of the hardest medals to get. It requires you to find some secrets. There are 3 times in the game where Harlot can end up in the river. Read on if you don't mind spoilers:

The Spa: Get the Jump Boots, then go south from the Merchant and jump across the waterfall gap.
The Farm: Enter the Grapes area and go down the vine, walk off the edge into the darkness to find a secret area.
The Tightrope: Try to cross the tightrope to the Mayor's house before you get the Balance Cap

I really enjoyed this game. There were some problems however. The game would frequently freeze up forcing me to reload the game and loose all of my progress since my last save point. Towards the end of the game I would have to save very frequently for fear of losing my progress which somewhat took away from the experience. Also, once I reached level 15 and got the "Unlock" skill nothing changed. I was unable to get any of the bonus scenes which was very disappointing. And there were some more minor glitches here and there as well that weren't as big of a deal.

Overall I liked the story which was much longer and more in depth that I originally expected. And the sex scenes were well done and enjoyable. I can see this becoming a very good game with some more work.

SlingBang responds:

I have had a number of people tell me this happens to them. I was giving out the password individually, but now I am posting it right in the description on the main page.

This password will only work if you have reached level 15, so isn't a cheat code. The first password just updates your gamedata. Try it first:

password1: unlock

If it still doesn't work, you have to speak louder for the computer to hear you.

password2: UNLOCK

Note: the second password will change the game loop. It shouldn't have any negative effect but always try the first password... first.

Over all good game but abit repetitive.
some bugs i noticed was if you buy something from your brother and talk with him you can give infinite tit jobs every day and you almost make money when he starts to invite his friend.
also if you go to the farm and let the time run out it sends you back to the village without time passing so it's easy to abuse.

SlingBang responds:

Thanks for the helpful bug catching!

I removed the infinite Titjob from Lamer. The Farm problem is related to the Timer called event, which makes me realize the timer at the farm is pointless anyways. Removed.

Now, you can leave the farm anytime you want and the night-time event should work properly again. I also slowed the music down at night to help Harlot go to sleep.

I couldn't figure out how to get past the mayor's wife, so I looked through the comments and found the solution. However, it isn't working? For me, anyways. I've tried ten times, and different ways, thinking maybe I interpreted "the wall behind the apples" wrong. She always finds me. I don't know if this is a bug for everyone else or I'm just doing something wrong? Hiding behind the piano works but I can't get past the second stage.

Other than that, great game! Like, I found myself getting invested in the story as well as just the gameplay aspect, like I enjoyed finding new secret places and figuring out how to get what I needed (the whole 'mayor's wife' thing was the first time I needed help, I don't think the puzzles are too hard, just challenging enough!). I feel so bad for George and the guard, though... I wish I could at least give the guard George's letter. As someone who isn't straight myself, it kind of sucks that the 'bury your gays' trope is a thing, and I'll be honest, it was disappointing to see another gay relationship end in tragedy, and to see another gay person be murdered. I know that this is a mostly light hearted game, and the game is a porn game, not something serious, but idk. Something to think about in future games, I guess.

Keep up the good work, looking forward to the next update! :3

I made an image of the spots to run to in the Mayor's Wife challenge:

If you are in the correct location and she still finds you, email me and I'll give you a code to jump directly upstairs. I have had a few people who's games have very odd bugs already.

NOTE to casual readers: SPOILERS... Major plot events are revealed below!

I was going to offer the choice to give the letter to Sherman and add more storyline but I honestly just ran out of time. I also cut all the Mayor's dialog and Sex scene as well...

I wasn't aware of the 'bury your gays' trope before you mentioned it, but I don't feel it applies in this game. I will admit that I needed a way to show the Mayor is an evil person and killing his son's gay lover was an easy path to that, but the portrayal is not of George and Sherman being 'bad' or 'corrupted' but of the Mayor being intolerant and destroying his own family. This is a major factor in how you evaluate the information the mayor reveals at the end of the game.

Besides, ALL my games focus on the unfairness in life. Sleeping Woman is a drunk woman getting molested at a party. Nobuku is getting gang-raped by monsters the whole game. Outcast Ninja is too. BBC ends with them all in jail, and the mayor gets away with murder. (Man, l I really hate mayors) Even in this game, Harlot's mother is dead, her brother abuses her, the townspeople take advantage of her naiveté, and the ending is far worse but I won't reveal that here.

I actually like Harlot the best of all my characters, because she chooses to be happy no matter what. I used to think intelligence, knowledge, and truth were the most valuable human skills, but as life progresses, and I learn how the world runs on corruption and is run by criminals, I'm believing that choosing to be happy, despite everything being bad, is the highest skill.

Thanks for the generous 5 stars too!

I think the 30 day time limit is too hard without playing the game 5x to learn what to do. I like the idea of the game but the art is pretty rough.

SlingBang responds:

Yes, originally, the 30 day limit had a story-effect, but the story changed over time and now it's basically pointless. Thanks for mentioning it.
I'll remove it in the next update. V.1.03
