Reviews for "Deterministic Dungeon"

So much effort went into this. I played it for half an hour honestly trying to enjoy it, but I didn't enjoy a single second of it. The game is never really fun, everything is kind of tedious and time-consuming. The worst part is that you often end up missing a certain important hit, and unlike regular random games, this game gives a semi-false impression of being in control, when in all honesty there's almost nobody out there who can accurately hit this. Nor is that a skill that anyone except slots playing alcoholics and chimpanzees can or want to boast.
The bottom line is that you never have fun, and rather than feeling the motivation to improve something that would require Guitar Hero levels of no-life training to perfect, you just feel as if you're not just getting rammed by random chance... but you should also FEEL BAD... because you were totally in control of that swing, right?

This is probably the first time I've given a 1-star review to a game that has been executed this well, but it's also the first time that I have wanted to shut a game down this bad.

Sorry. Your concept is horrible. I hope you make other games in the future though, this was still really well done.

PestoForce responds:

Ha ha, sorry you didn't like it. It does require very good reflexes, but the cool thing is that you improve quite a bit with practice and there are items in the game that enhance your choosing abilities. Sorry it wasn't your cup o' tea!

Kind of fun. But it's not really "random" unless you close your eyes when you click the button. You can accurately get what you're trying to go for about 75% of the time. Probably more if you're good and bother practicing. This makes the game more stressful because you actually have to try instead of it just being random. I hate having to concentrate like that constantly.

PestoForce responds:

The point of the game is that it's NOT random, you have CONTROL! Weeee!

Neat game, the sai is glitched though. You hit with it, and the game just lingers.

PestoForce responds:

It's probably a glitch unrelated to the sai specifically. Thx for the review though!

Frustrating. Gave up after 3 minutes.

PestoForce responds:

Soldier on my friend!

I played for maybe 3 minutes. Clicking the button over and over and over with essentially no feedback to the input? I get it. It's supposed to be random, but me clicking that button is only an illusion of choice. I can't really decide what's happening, and it's obvious. If your going to present an illusion of choice, it can't be that obvious. What you put together was a boring RPG with a poorly implemented gimmick. If the game get's more depth to it later on, that may be good, but you couldn't grip me quick enough. I didn't get to experience enough depth quick enough. Again, hitting the button to make a red box jump panel to panel, but without any real feedback as to what was happening.

I don't want to be mean, but by me clicking on your game title I am putting trust in you to provide me with a good experience, and not waste my time. You did me a disservice. Not a very long disservice though. I can see that you are trying to think of something original and creative, and that's good. It just wasn't implemented well. I wish I could offer better advice, but I just think the "random" button clicky thing didn't work well.

PestoForce responds:

Lol, I want to respond to this kindly, because I agree, there is room for improvement... but telling me I did you a "disservice" by creating this game is a bit much.

Your entitled attitude on a FREE entertainment site, implying my game "betrayed your trust," is ridiculous.

Sorry sir, but you are what is wrong with the world.
