Reviews for "Another"

Holy crap. That had the feels of a Studio Ghibli film, wrought with confusion and randomness that altogether welds into a wholesome story.

Pretty unique, need's some work, but I enjoyed it a lot.

Hey!! I remember this film!

Great to see it again, and on Newgrounds, no less. :)

Still a great story after the years it's been since I saw this last. Really, the story is just as great and individual as the animation itself. Feels like the story has been told before, but really, I can't think of where or when, except for this film.

Btw, I love your art style, it rocks.

Faved!

Very surreal, incredibly well done. I feel I need to watch it a few more times to really take it all in, but on first watching it really plays hard on the feelings.

Enjoyed this a lot.

There really isn't any coherent criticism that I can offer. Everything is flawless. Others have already discussed the bear as metaphor for stepfather and the bear as metaphor for substance abuse. So instead, I submit that if the bear represents something else, then so can the family. The family represents a country. Another possible interpretation of this film is that it is about military and political conquest. The father is the old regime. The bear is an invading foreign power. The invader destroys the old regime and takes its place, not so much because the invader wants to take the place of the old regime, but because the alternative is to withdraw, which would mean admitting defeat. At first, the inhabitants despise the new regime for destroying the beloved old regime and taking what does not rightfully belong to the new regime. Then they get used to it with the passage of time and the realization that there is nothing they can do about it. Then the new regime attempts to ingratiate itself with its subjects because no one wants to be a pariah. Then they begin to love it the same way they loved the old regime despite all of its flaws. Then another foreign power notices the country, destroys the new regime, and the cycle repeats itself. I know that that is not what you intended to convey. However, coming up one's own interpretation is half the fun of consuming any type of media and the absence of dialogue makes it really easy in this case.
