Reviews for "Alien Splatter"

Awesome game, reminiscent of Contra (minus the directional shooting, as well as being able to drop through platforms, which would be nice). Nice pacing and feel to the game.

One complaint-- in the first section of Level 4, you have to jump onto and from the falling box in order to get to the next platform, and this is so remarkably inconsistent and hard to pull off with the current game mechanics. Making the next platform just a little bit lower, so the success rate is tweaked slightly up, would be a nice revision.

Also, thanks for not making this true-NES-style and giving us only one or two continues with no passwords...

SinclairStrange responds:

I know the part you're talking about, I actually lowered it at one point as it was 16 pixels higher than it is now. I might look back at lower it again if I go back to edit stuff. I'll admit that part is a little annoying but I felt it wasn't too bad, maybe I was wrong :S.

Most NES games had unlimited continues or passwords, so I thought why not best of both worlds? :) I'm glad you liked playing it :)

Love this game. It reminded me of Contra straight from the intro. Two things though:
There's a bug on stage one area Ican'tRememberWhich (the one with the rising and falling platforms; first instance of those zig-zagging bird-butterfly-things). I was on top of a platform moving downwards (first one in the area) and when I touched the adjacent wall it crushed my character.
Secondly is more regarding level design - on the train (Stage 2) I found the red crates a bit confusing. What I mean to say is that the design for them and the white crates seems to exude the same sense of depth. The color is also close to that of the enemies and makes them a bit difficult to spot in certain sections. It's not really that bad - more of an annoyance than an issue but just decided to throw that out there.

All in all the game looks great. If I could play it in fullscreen and use a controller it would be just like playing an old cartridge game.

SinclairStrange responds:

Oh the platforms are meant to crush you so it's not a bug :P. I'm glad you like the game! :) Thanks for the review.

Getting to third stage boss with all lives but always get screwed in a minute. I cant figure out how to attack him while dodging his attacks. Somebody help!

SinclairStrange responds:

Ah that's a tricky one. It's down to timing with jumping off and on those platforms and dodging the bullets. I'm sorry it's a little tricky.
