Reviews for "Scarlet Stranger"

Too many flaws

This is a good game overall. You already have full points for graphics, gameplay and playability. The game flows really well, and it isn't boring to play. There are enough enemies, and they were quite original.

There are lots of things I didn't like about this game though. First of all: the random-dungeon-generator was nice, but way too random. By that I mean that things like shops, difficulty of rooms and stuff wasn't based on how far you got in the game. I wasn't very lucky the first time I played it. I stumbled across three shops in the first five rooms I entered, and didn't see one in the about thirty rooms afterwards. Because of this I had to walk back and forth for a minute of four through rooms I've all seen three times before.
Due to the random nature, some rooms returned a few times in one game, making the already easy levels far too easy.

The battling system was nice, but since the rooms didn't get much more difficult the farther I got into the game, I hardly got hit in the last 10 to 15 rooms. Once you have one of the best weapons, no enemy can hit you faster than you heal it back with all the hearts you get for them.

Do some more with the crafting system! If you have some gold, silver, iron or anything left it often isn't useful at all to sell them. You only get 5 money for a piece of gold! I had hoped for a weapon, shield or amulet upgrade system for that. It's just perfect for it! Make two golds and a staff shoot some magic, or something like that. There must be some nice combinations you can come up with.

I also noticed some bugs:

- Sometimes you get stuck on water if you jump from a high position. For example in the field where you make the jump to the boss fight.
- If you start the game over, the question marks are in the wrong places, most of them even out of the map.
- I also noticed that sometimes the arrows from the shooters point to the wrong direction.
- And of course, the whole game not ending. I only got this while wearing the cursed ring, but still.

The game is nice, but just not diverse and flawless enough to have a golden submission IMO.

Interesting Idea, but you need to QA your own stuf

There are multitudes of areas where you can get stuck with no way out, so... work on that.

Visually pleasing, but very buggy.

Excellent visual style, great audio, and potentially cool mechanics--but it seems like this game spent zero time in QA. I managed to open the chest in the first room but received no item, then proceeded to jump up on a retaining wall and teleport into the next room, which sent me back into the first room, lodged halfway into the floor.

You guys definitely have a level of quality here, but you need to actually test your mechanics. People aren't going to spend any time finding the cool stuff you've placed later on in the game (bosses, new weapons, items, etc) if the very first room frustrates them into total abandonment.

Boss Key IN the Boss Room

Don't get me wrong with the 4 stars and such, the game itself is great. I like the music, graphics, story, ect... The concept and game play (except for the lag, but that may just be my laptop) is pretty good, but a tad repetitive (ironic for the "random" layout.) The biggest issues here though are the CONSTANT GLITCHES!
The first play through, I had no problems, but I didn't really know that I had to craft a ring, so I defeated the boss without the ring.
After the castle reset and I made the ring, the boss key ended up being IN the boss's room. Redundant, right? I reset the map and the new one was even worse. The new map had keys, boss keys and rooms set in random places not even connected to anything. There were even keys on rooms that didn't have keys. I kept resetting the maps, but after 8 tries, I gave up.
I reloaded the game hoping for better maps. Well, the maps were less glitchy. There were no random rooms and/or keys in space and the keys were actually in the rooms with keys on them, but the boss key was STILL in the boss's room.
This is VERY irritating, and it's the ONLY thing preventing me from finishing the game.

This glitch I'm about to mention wasn't a big issue (all I had to do was restart the game and it didn't happen again), but I'm going to tell you about it anyways. Whenever I opened one of the chests, it showed my item, like normal, but it kept on closing back, and not putting the item in my inventory. Like I said, it wasn't a big issue, but I'd still look into it.

It seems to me that quite a few people had problems with different glitches, so I would suggest looking it over, maybe getting more beta testers and such to help you identify the glitches.

If it wasn't for the annoying glitches this probably would've gotten around 9 to 10 stars.

Any how, all you really need to do is fix the glitches. Other than that, great game. I hope you make more, and have a great day. :3

Great....

This was a nice game, although a bit jerky and with far-too-slow animation. Then I entered the boss room without the ring, because having killed everything in every room I was missing one leather in order to make the ring, and I thought worst comes to worst I could come back and go through all the rooms again.

Then I found out that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO IF YOU ENTER THE BOSS ROOM WITHOUT THE RING. If he kills me, I go back to the room in which the only option I have is to go back and get killed again. This is ridiculous - if I die, the door to the boss room should re-open so that I can go and try and find the one pig I missed. How on earth does it make sense to have me stuck, with 15 minutes left on the clock and no way to finish the game????

Games with dead ends that get you stuck without warning you and without any option to restart are simply annoying, not challenging.
