Didn't care for the animation.
The pseudo-animation here really doesn't work. It's really painful how it looks when the doctor "turns" and his still image is "rotated" in a really awkward and unnatural way. It's worth it to actually draw extra poses, really. Or at least don't have your character do what you're not going to draw - it just looks bad.
I know what you mean, I did cut a corner and next time I won't attempt to cut that corner again.
Anime already did it
Check out Robot Carnival. The wording to some degree was similar ; p a very incredibly similar concept too.
Ghost in the Shell also had a similar concept. So I guess great minds think alike. :D
I have seen this before.
I have to admit that it was a great twist in a story plot... the first time I saw it on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. You should try to be more original when you think of a short story like this.
I haven't seen a Ghost in the Shell. I wrote the script with the intention of making it different from most robot human stories. That's how I came up with this.
