Awesome!
I wrote an essay on the third topic for school!
nice
good video very intersting but does that mean that on december 21 2012 were gonna die
nope
Two disputes
Great animation and very informative, but I have two small problems.
1. The mayan calendar: recent research done by anthropologists and linguists have shown that the original translation that says it ends in 2012 is completely inaccurate.
The date at the end of the calendar could be anywhere from 200,000 years ago to far in the future (I'm not disputing you on that point, I'm disputing the date)
2. Philosophy: you described the age of philosophy as a dumber age, however, before the age of philosophy most things were explained away with gods. It was then that man began to look away from that perspective and attempt to see things differently. while we did lose some wisdom, we increased our knowledge of the world as a whole, without using religious figures as an excuse. It was when philosophy truly reawakened during the renaissance that we began to get moving again, and stop sticking to fixed beliefs. In fact, this was when "earth orbits the sun" and physics were discovered (or rediscovered) and investigation started again. (sorry for the wall of text)
1) I'm not sure about this new [200,000 years ago to far in the future] discovery you're talking about. But i do know that the mayans called the period of time were in now "The end of time." they said it would be marked by a giant blue orb in the sky, larger than the sun. In 2007, comet holmes flew into our solar system and exploded in a giant blue sphere, which was larger than the sun. in fact, it's the largest recorded "thing" in our solar system that scientists have ever found. The end of time window is from 2007-2015. 2012 is the specific date, but the shift could happen anytime between now and 2015.
2) The common understanding that things were explained by gods isn't actually true. In egypt you might have seen that at one point they had 84 and 4 gods. Originally, north and south egypt both had 42 and 2 "gods" with a lowercase g. They were called Neters, and they represented the chromosomes in the human body. They had nothing to do with deities of sorts. As consciousness dropped over time, that wisdom was forgotten, then an Egyptian king combined north and south egypt and joined the Neters as well. Making 84 and 4 gods. After that, the people really did think they were deities, although that was not their original purpose.
Then you can see how the precession worked over time, we got philosophical, then we lost it all, then as we started coming around the curve, in the time of the Renaissance, we began remembering again.
As usual
An information wave on multiple levels it's really great to see this stuff on newgrounds. P.s you made me feel better about december 21st cause that's my b-day ;D
No way! Epic birthday!
