Reviews for "Super Morse Code RPG"

Pretty cool

I'm digging this. I've never seen a game try to do something like this before. It's pretty original. The only thing about it is that it's more fun as a learning tool than an actual game. Like, you could probably use this in classrooms to help teach kids Morse Code.

Grent responds:

Honestly, the use of Morse code was really more of a way to give the user more choice than to be a learning tool. Still, you're right, with a little retooling, this could easily be focused on instruction. Glad you liked it!

Nice.

Could have some checkpoints (sucks to die) and more uses for the other buttons. A tutorial would've been nice too, but I understand the lack of time. Otherwise, loved the concept, just learned some more letters in Morse Code. And the music is awesome, nice choices there.

Grent responds:

In development, I decided not to put in checkpoints simply because I thought the game was quick enough that no one would mind. Obviously, I was mistaken. If we ever make a sequel, I'll be sure to put checkpoints in there, along with the tutorial several people have been asking for.

Nice

It's creative enough to make it a decent game. The game itself it's pretty simple... I think this idea could (and should) be part of a bigger game that doesn't use the morse code gameplay concept all the time. It gets complicated at first, and that could cost you players and good reviews... Not everyone is patient enough, and not everyone learns stuff quickly. And also it seems to piss off people (not me).

Overall, i liked it. It's nice to see someone think outside the box once in a while.

Grent responds:

Glad you liked it! In the event that we decide to make a sequel, it probably won't require you to do everything with Morse, because it is a little tedious at times.

Enjoyable, yet frustrating

This is a great concept which turned into a fun game. I love the use of morse code, and the gameplay was excellent for the short amount of time you had to work on it. Very well done. I do have one suggestion however, if you want to continue work on this game or perhaps take the idea to a new submission.

Remove the extra animations. I think this is the source of the lag everyone is experiencing. The waves coming up on the shore, the smoke in the background, the building on fire, they all are causing some serious lag, even at the lowest quality setting. I think this is the case (please forgive me if I'm wrong, I know NOTHING about programming or coding. I may be totally off base here) because my lag was worst in the urban level, with the building on fire. That level had the most background animation and I couldn't send Mr. Doe a message to save my life. I started carrying around a few extra grenades so that I could attempt a quick .. --. to get out of there quickly. (Side note: Every button used in this game now is burned into my memory. >.< Morse code is going to wake me up at night. beep beeeep. *shudder*) If you included a quality setting which paused or removed the background animation, I think many people with computers like mine would have a much more enjoyable experience with this game. :)

Again, very enjoyable, I played through even with the lag because I wanted to see how you ended it. Very funny ending as well. Well done all around. :) 4/5 & 8/10.

Grent responds:

Des does have a tendency to make some pretty processor-intensive animations at times (they look pretty, though!), but I don't think that was the case here, considering we cut most of them out in an attempt to solve the issue. Personally, I suspect that it's the way some browsers/operating systems handle the way I used sounds for the button. Unfortunately, I haven't really gotten that big of a response on my requests for people experiencing lag to report back to me, so I can't say for sure.

I liked this game, it sure does make you proficient in morse code. I wish for a practice or time trial mode to really hone your skills.

I recommend.
