Reviews for "Pestilence Z"

love it

the problem? no one, it's just long.. and I want to explore every obscure part so for me it's taking time... because of this I will play only as the vet.. that's the problem.. I wish I had patience to go around with every character ( I save, but still very long for a flash game)... the party system, one playthrough would solve this, because is a long, very long game...

Consider porting to Iphone with new weapons, party system and such, It's a great game, sure will make some money there!

Good Try.

I understand, do to the fact that this is a large RPG game, that there will be some grammatical slip-ups. I understand, do to the fact that this a large RPG game, that you will need to compromise between having an original story for each character, and finishing the game within a practical time-frame. I understand, do to the fact that this a RPG game, that some of the widely excepted general knowledge about zombies will have to be modified so that the game can merely exist. Simply, there wasn't much capability for this game to work in the first place, based on the laws of this game's reality. Good try, but try something different in the future. I'm not saying abandon the project completely, but try something different.

An exceptional turn-based strategy game.

Atmosphere: 8/10. Although this game certainly does portray the (so far) fictional "Zombie Apocalypse" well, it does so to an extent that hinders itself. I felt somewhat alone fighting endless mobs of zombies and finding endless piles of human bodies, all-the-while with the knowledge that my character had abandoned the (then) only other living person on earth.

Mechanics: 10/10. Very strong mechanics typical of popular Adventure games, especially the difficult to find secret areas that hide great rewards ("A flamethrower? Hell yes!")

Entertainment: 8/10. I have already spent four different days playing this game, and I am still only on my first campaign. This game is certainly engaging, but I feel like there are not enough side-items or rewards, especially when one knows that he's going to fight zombies for an hour, have a ten second cut scene, then fight zombies for another hour -- all within a four city-block radius.

It's fun and strategic. Overall it just seems that this game is a bit to realistic in its functioning. My calculator states that "8 + 8 + 10 / 3 = 8.6_", so the rating is '9'. I honestly do hope to see more works from this author, at the very least a new episode for this game.

Jagged alliance ... now with zombies

Apart from controlling only one character and having separate battle screens, this is very much like Jagged alliance... which is good, I liked that game and when you take into account that this is made in flash, this is a rather good game in the same genre.

That being said, I found three things that I don't like about this game:
1. Zombies having no clipping, so they can go through walls. I can see why this was done, but as they cannot attack diagonally, it only speeds up the game a bit, and might as well be taken out.

2. Not being able to shot zombies at close range: While I see (in the real world) why it might be a problem to shoot a large rifel or shotgun, when you are standing face to face with a enemy, you should be able to raise a handgun and blow zombie brain. It might prove to be a fun game mechanic to add: Close quarter gunfight; either you kill the zombie, you disable the zombie or you hurt yourself.

3. In the battlescreen some zombies sometimes advance 50 meters instead of 25 meters. While it does add some level of difficulty to the game, it is most unpleasant that several zombies does this at the same time, and that the knockback attack have a tendency to only work once a battle in these situations.

These are of course only small complaints, about a otherwise good game.

Great stuff!

Really enjoyed this, enough to play it through with all three characters. I found the vet by far the most playable - he is the only one who can shoot well, and therefore reliably kill zombies before they reach him. By the end had some 93% chance of a headshot, which made me pretty close to invincible, but if it was a large group (especially of army zombies) then it was difficult without losing a lot of life. I found it a great combination of getting easier in general but more tricky in places as the game went on.

I disagree with most commenters about the walls - sure it isn't too realistic but it also means that you can kill the zombies without having to spend 50 turns walking all the way around the screen. I do agree that is annoying that you can't shoot them while they are on a wall.

Having supplies all over the place maybe isn't the most realistic in the world, but if the entire region has been in the midst of a battle with zombies, it isn't all that unreasonable that some supplies are lying around. Remember that the people using them may have been killed and turned into zombies- not to mention, consider 90% of RPG games in the last 50 years, most of them had treasure boxes lying around in the middle of nowhere, so lighten up people!

Love the idea of a party system, being able to have a tank with a sniper or a healer would be cool, you could make much more difficult battles that need more strategy, crossing my fingers for act 2 :)

Thanks, one of my favorite recently!

Thanks for the positive response. Did you read our comments to pie4ever0's review a ways down? We talked about many of your same points there. and you can definitely look forward to some sort of party system in the future sequel.
