Reviews for "[RESPAWN]"

Pretty good, overall.

I definitely had fun with the game, though there are a few issues. There seems to be a bug with the level select where none of the levels are available until you reload the page. The premise is fun, albeit nothing super original. I thought levels 1-18 were great as their puzzle focus seemed appropriate for the controls, however the steep difficulty spike at level 19 was disconcerting because the controls simply do not work for a precision platformer. Despite, a few flaws it is still a very fun game and I really hope to see more from you.

Bug report and critique

During level 19 I noticed that the movement was sticking, more than usual. The character would keep going in one direction after the key was released. I thought it was just my keyboard until I noticed the walk cycle wasn't playing.

***SPOILERS AHEAD***
The game was fully enjoyable for the first 18 levels, but level 19 was unusually harsh and didn't fit in. As for the ending, the statement is beautiful and needs to be heard, but this didn't quite seem the place. After playing a whole game about acknowledging game mechanics and disregarding death, an anti-suicide lecture is almost a non-sequitur, especially since gamer mentality will almost always choose to immediately replay the last level. It would make more sense as a message about accepting death, with caution, as in, "Death happens. It's a part of life. But we shouldn't abuse that fact."
In any case, saying "You only have one chance to respawn" is oddly worded. Technically this is saying that you only live twice. It would be better in the future to state what you mean instead of trying to work in terminology to fit the theme.

JonBro responds:

Hm. I don't think Level 19 should behave any differently than the others. That's weird.

I definitely understand and agree with you about the endings. I really just wanted to throw a moral in at the end of the game, but it was quickly apparent that there aren't any good morals for a game where you kill yourself over and over to reach a goal. So I think I tried to make it kind of cryptic and failed.

Good, but..

I love the concept of the game but the controls kill my fingers and level 19 is way too hard!! I didn't get to see the ending...

Nice message

The majority of the levels are engaging and fun. I thought that there would be a few more levels with increasing difficulty after level 18 and not just a near impossible level with extremely excessive amounts of death spikes. The ending message the game leaves the player with is nice, and gives an interesting view on the game as well as real life. However, I'm not sure how many people will ever get to read it. Those who have need to go outside after doing so because they have clearly spent way too much time in front of a computer screen. It makes me wonder how many kids are going to rage after playing this game for a while.

Try this!!!

On level 8, Throw your red platform into the spike pit with the coin, then die!! You will spawn on top of the platform! Once on top of the red, Hold the down Key! You Character will appear as White with a red outline!! LOLZ!!!
