Reviews for "Zombies - Surrounded"

Theory

Right everyone so far has been calling this game short etc, Heres what Im thinking.

If this is standalone yeah it is short, however if its part of a seires you plan to continue doing chapter by chapter then it was long enough to warrant its place here on newgrounds.

I dont comment on graphics, its a flash game theres only so much a man can do with flash quality, still for what its worth I appreciated the detail enough to get it done.

My ONE complaint is that the way each item you aquired works isnt really something you can put together without the Twins "Trial and Error" in fact I got stuck on the 1st part of the game for a good 10 minutes before I finally googled the walk through and discovered I was ment to use the stick to recover the batteries under the bed.

In all honesty I Didnt know there WERE any batteries under the bed despite having clicked on it. Perhaps some subtle hints next time around?

"The batteries in this radio are dead, maybe there are some more around here?"

The batteries also had a very minor presence in the darkness under the bed and I only found them because the guide told me they were there, else Id still be stuck. Not saying staple a big red arrow to them but maybe put them in a slightly more obvious location next time or a more noticable one.

Outside of the battery thing I found the game pretty simple and enjoyable and as a man who LOVES zombie horror (as in I own pretty much every zombie movie / game / book I can get my hands on) this was enjoyable.

This game is part of a rarer creed of Zombie horror - The puzzle / escape thinker as opposed to "HEY JIMMY! Pass me the shotguuuun we gonna paste us some zombies!" style of zombies. I always prefer the games / movies where a lone survivor is trying to escape a wrecked house / lab / theme park trying to avoid zombies and figuring out puzzles over the action gun violence.

Its why Games like Silent Hill (Not a zombie horror but a similar pacing and style) and even Resident Evils 1-3 were a lot more intense and "I dont want to open that door because I dont think I'll like whats on the otherside so Ill hang out in this room abit more" scary over games like Left 4 Dead where you grab an automatic shotgun and run INTO the horde of zombies spraying buckshot like its the 4th of July.

A truely well made horror in any medium will create an atmosphere of horror that causes the audience to scare themself and this could be as simple as only having 2 or 3 zombies in the whole game but paced in the right way with the right scene and subtlety it can be more involving than a movie or game where you see a constant stream of zombies coming for the cast.

A good example is the 1st part of Dawn of the dead (2004) when the lead females boyfriend gets bitten by the little girl. It wasnt directly scary but when he was breaking down the door of the bathroom and grabbing her feet as she climbed out the window I was like "RUN B**** RUN!" whereas movies like Resident Evil 2-3 were in such a hurry to scare you they threw zombies and blood at you every scene and ruined the pacing and atmosphere.

So in a nutshell, good pacing,
good atmosphere,
nice length if its part of a story,
could use some tweaks for the items and their uses.

Thank you! Love reading these beefy reviews!

Very good!

This game is really very good. I enjoyed your choice of setting very much. The plot was classic, which is definately not a bad thing and the art was convincing. What I did not enjoy very much was the ending which was, as a preposter put it, anticlimatic. I was a little disappointed that you had no chance to save the girl (and thus save the day ;) ) But all in all a very good game. 5/5 points on the submission vote to encourage you to do more and 9/10 for the cool story and performance.
Maybe you want to to a sequel with the wounded Lance given shelter by the sniper?

MichaelJ responds:

I have the sequel all planned out..

FANTASTIC!!!

This game is really good please make another one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok but...

what little i played i did enjoy but it was way to short and the ending was a little anticlimactic, not to say it wasnt good but still...

wait...

Thats it? All that buildup for nothing? I was in the mood for a good zombie shooter/horror game, and you just end it? That was awful.

MichaelJ responds:

I really don't understand why you people bother leaving these reviews. What on earth makes you say it was all for nothing? I'm getting tired of it. If you don't have anything helpful or constructive to say then don't leave a review. Some of you are just so stupid!
