Cool, but has some problems
I liked the way it worked overall. Gameplay was good, though the lack of an explorable overworld was a little annoying at times. But the whole mission thing was good, as were the way the powers were arranged. Also, Retreat seems to solve most difficulty problems, because you can use it regardless of whether or not you have or ever had a base. You can wear down the enemy base and then their commander by repeated use of this ability. I had to use it quite a bit (particularly on Herzog 2.0) later on. Graphics and music were really good But there are a few things I don't like:
1. Torpedoes aren't very effective compared to other weapons of the same price, which is annoying given they're the only way for you to attack ground. Maybe you could use the beam weapon from the Beam Tank?
2. Once you got into the medium and hard missions, you have to do too much grinding. Stuff was too expensive, and you don't get enough money from missions. The bonus parts weren't all that useful- they should be unique parts or at least higher level than the ones you can get from the traders at that point.
3. The submission system, while a good idea, needs to have some sort of sorting and rating system. It's hard to find the exact ship you want to fight, and there are a lot of junk ships, far more than the good ones.
4. There are a lot of glitches involving repeatedly doing things in yards. Entering and exiting repeatedly with Control pieces increased the unit limit (though this could not be abused because it reset when you entered a mission). There was this one time when taking a part off and putting it back on increased the value.
5. The lack of level three passive energy enhancements meant that you tended to run out of energy relatively quickly at high levels. Again, kinda annoying.
6. Although the ground combat idea was good, their could have been more variety in the tanks. Maybe a fast tank, a heavy tank, cannon tank (as in normal cannon), et cetera.
7. Moving through the overworld can be annoyingly slow. THe base areas could be a bit more compact, or you could be able to jump between them.
8. Since there isn't much variety of things to do, it gets repetitive (sp) after a while.
