Reviews for "Greater Fighter"

Needs some tweaks

The game concept is great, but the execution could use some work. The music is good (the voices are annoying though...) and I love the Touhou-esque enemy attack patterns, lots of bullets and sometimes quick moving enemies. Gives it a good challenge.

First of all, leveling. Since large combos get you to level faster it makes it easy to level a few characters but it is incredibly difficult to level some characters. If you gained experience at the end of the fight based on how much damage you dealt that would help, it would still make it a bit harder for slow characters but it would be a little more fair.

Combining: A good concept again, but having only one character that can initiate the support and only being able to combine with the other two originals makes it harder to pull off, and half the time the larger size only succeeds in making you a big target so you can die easier.

Heroes for Hire: Good that we can buy more fighters to help, but a few of them are tough to use. So far only maxamillion and Zero have proven useful for me. *Note to anyone who reads this, Maxamillion is like a shotgun, just put him on top of the enemy and he can deal big damage and avoid most enemy attacks.

Some enemies, such as Stardust, have attack patterns that are impossible to completely dodge. This isn't so bad, but if you're using a slow character you're subject to a lot of hits and are almost guaranteed to die. One way to remedy this would be to let someone decide to use an ability to get rid of enemy bullets rather than use their special to attack.

The rules could use some fixing too. They can make it more strategic, but can give you a major disadvantage. The worst of these is the silence rule. It makes you have to dodge for 60 seconds and you get no reward? I understand having you dodge, but there needs to be something you're given for doing so, otherwise it's just a waste of 60 seconds and your hp.

Overall it's a good concept and wasn't a bad play, but some of the gameplay elements make it overly difficult to play the game and are just plain annoying. I'm hoping for a sequel to this with the problems I mentioned fixed and some more work put into it.

Some more work maybe?

I'd have to say yea it was good and all but it seemed it needed some more things extra, the extra fighters you get could have been able to have a super shot like the 3 main one's and gear to make your fighters have better defense, attack, and speed but with a limit to it... That and the time it takes to level some of these guys is just too long for some of the fighters.

Cool story bro.

I'm having a lot of fun with this game....the only reason its a 7 and not a ten is for 1 reason. Silence. Stupidest bullshit ever. So, I just fly around for a minute doing nothing, and possibly taking damage? Cool beans bro.

Great game but poorly executed

This game offers a top down shooter, with great game mechanics, but offers little else.

The difficulty in this game is INSANELY difficult. Being a fan of top down shooters, this game's extremely difficult, even for me. For one, the amount of enemy health is astronomical, compared to your ships. Even then, some of the enemies either move much faster than your ship, or offer (literally) no way to dodge their attack. Whereas, a few of your ships will die from about 3 or 4 hits.

Be prepared to spend hours upon hours (probably in the 40+ range) playing this game, if you decide you want to play till the end. No flash game should take that long to complete, UNLESS it's a massively epic game with great replayability. This game is far from that, as it offers no upgrade system and a strenuously long, droned out system of leveling.

Again, great game mechanics, and something to do if you have hours of free time on your hands, but the difficulty and amount of time required for this game really turns it off for me.

6/10

Such potential...

This could have been a great game. It's very fun, and looks good, but you need to work on some of the mechanics. Adding specials to the mercs made it a lot more playable, but your EXP system is nonsensical. The orange guy levels up almost instantly with his special, as does Sammy at low levels. The slow shooting guys with non area of effect attacks are basically unlevelable, unless you sink in an absurd amount of time.

There should be bonus EXP for defeating a fighter. This would help fix the problem. Also, there should always be a way to win. The second boss's attack where he shoots all around himself and rams you is undodgeable at times, especially if you combine characters. That's just frustrating.

You should need less EXP to level up, and gain higher EXP for battling enemies above your rank. For instance, if I finish off a level 10 with a level 1 guy, I expect to gain at least 2 levels.

Limiting the ability to combine to one player is silly. It'd be better to either give all 3 mains that ability, or include mercs. Otherwise, it just doesn't come up often.
