Reviews for "Super Adventure Game Land"

squidly responds:

Don't you have enough health and unlimited lives to make it through?
Also, archers have a considerable delay before they fire, stock up on arrows and hit them first!

Unenjoyable Soap Box?

I really don't understand what you're trying to express here. How much of what was said in the game represents your beliefs and how much is a parody? Was the entire point of the game just some shallow message about the effects of consumerism on creativity? Because if so it was poorly executed. I may have gotten everything wrong. If you can, please explain the deeper meaning of this game, because if a game is repetitive and not fun it should have a powerful message behind it to compensate. This came off as a poor man's Jason Rohrer, and I hate Jason Rohrer.
But the game was relatively well made though. I just didn't enjoy it. At least it was better than Passage.

squidly responds:

Well, the message is up for your own interpretation.
It's first and foremost a parody, but there are things in there worth a second look.

Generic, at best

This was pretty awful. I don't see the fun in the characters constantly talking about how much the game itself sucks ("lol the game designer is lazy", "lol this plot is cliche"), or how much other things suck ("lol anime."). I understand that it's supposed to be satire but...it's just not entertaining. It's nothing I haven't already heard from every other adventure game parody. Most importantly, the game play is slow and bland.

As for the positives...

I did smirk at the pit joke. I also liked the tree enemies, they made the game more exciting. The graphics and music are pretty nice.

squidly responds:

The dreaded trees...

Boring as can be.

Man, I couldn't tell if this was suppose to be satire or introspective of a genre or gaming because you could not pay me to read all the mind numbing text this game spewed out. Seriously, this game is so wordy even the freaking signs have entire diatribes for you to read through.

As a game it was playable the way art games are playable, but the message within this game was delivered in such a dull way I don't know what it was. Maybe that means I'm too lazy, maybe it means you don't know how to present a message.

squidly responds:

I did get a bit lost, don't blame it on the princess, though, if you mean the original signs, then yes.

Too much text

Most of the time I didn't even want to bother reading anything. I just skimmed most of it, and the gameplay was a parody, but even the parody is dull.
Work on it. Less talk, more game.

... Also, not all anime is the same... Maybe you're thinking of moe anime?
