Reviews for "Arachnid Wars 1.5"

not cool

the new version isnt as good as the other one this one takes way too much time and is too complicated for the casual gamer. still a good idea though and gameplay was smooth 8/10

dz2001 responds:

Its actually sad that I'm forced to CARE what 'casual player' would think of my games. I'm forced since making games bring me money now and I need the majority to like my games to make good cash.

I remember good old times when I earned nothing with my games... I could tell 'casual players' to go fuck themselves and feel good about it :P I wasn't very good at programming back then though, couldn't make a game I really wanted to make, being limited by poor skills...

Fair

the graphics effects are all good and have awsome gameplay but its pretty boring
overall good

Fallout. And another decade passes us by.

I like the falloutesque feel of this game, what with its turn based strategy action, post-apocolyptic style, and the nostalgia goggle inducing music. The bad side is that this game feels too one-sided. Either you blindly rush and lose or you group up and drain out all the enemies resources and win. It doesn't feel like there is such a thing as a close match. You either rape or get raped. Also I'd like to see some real choice as far as the tech tree is concerned. Every level is pretty much composed of you maxing out everything you can unlock about half way through and then just beasting though it, all the while incalculable and more importanlty unusable evo points waste away. It just feels like the tech tree is underutilized. My final complaint would be that there needs to be some way to destinguish similar enemies on the que bar. Do I need to quickly wipe out the scorpion next to me before he attacks my crippled soldier or is his twin way back in the back about to scurry around a bit? I say give them all little names. Like Herbert. Or Bob. Or don't. Totally your call.

Good, but the pathfinding is flawed

This is a pretty solid game. My main complain is the pathfinding. Oftentimes I'll target an enemy and the game claims I have to walk a really long path to get to it. However, it's quite clear there's a much shorter path, and, in fact, if I move square-by-square, I can walk that shorter path. However, if the game is going to have pathfinding at all, it should have optimal pathfinding (which is easy in a game like this). It's also a little weird that you can attack diagonally, but not move diagonally. Oh, and in the later rounds, I really didn't find a use for anything besides the blue spiders (I think; the melee ones that cost 2 control points) and the ranged+splash spiders. Everything else was either too expensive for its utility or too weak for its control points.

Eh.

I would have prefered a less tedious way to move spiders like in the original Arachnid Wars but it is still a good challenging game with great graphics.
