Reviews for "Rayne's World: Level 1"

Mediocre

As a reader of LICD, I can appreciate what the game is trying to do, but the word that best describes this is mediocre. The inside jokes from the comic are definitely there, and the music is kinda catchy. That said, the gameplay itself is boring: I found myself much preferring the original Mario. Also, the environment, both fore- and background, were kinda blase. I do realize this is a work in progress, so I have high hopes for the finished product, but I can't give this particular work a high score. GO SOHMER.

collision issues hardcore

well the concept seems cool, but i was able to just jump through everything except the ground and the hillbillies. this made it hard near where the second rabbi was,as you need to jump on the boxes.

I've seen this somewhere before

I found this mildly interesting, but only about as interesting as the original Super Mario; this isn't a parody, it's a re-skin. It needs *something* notable about its gameplay, because at the moment it has nothing that the gaming world hasn't gotten bored of about ten years ago. I think your audience at the moment will probably play the final game for about fifteen minutes, then go off and do something else.

The humour from the comic doesn't come across at all well: all you've got is imagery from the comic, overlaid on the game. There's no good reason for it being there, other than to say that this is an LICD Super Mario parody. I think there are other games that would make a better fit for LICD: the Sims springs to mind straight away. A little more work, granted, but then you'd actually be doing something with the LICD concept a little more; pimping up your lovenest and whatnot, occasional delusional fantasies into some form of more platform-based gameplay when Rayne goes off on one into Batman or LotR.

Actual programming and art wise, it's not a bad first foray into making a game. Obviously it's a little buggy right now (and for the smaller version of Rayne, that needs redrawing, not just being shrunk horizontally 50%), but it's reasonably solid. But with all these very positive reviews, that don't seem to mind that you've just made Mario again, I'd like to recommend that you don't stick your feet up. In terms of concept development and innovation, this is sorely lacking.

its a nice attempt but

its a nice attempt but its just so generic. copy and pasted the original mario with a new look. the controls are quite sluggish which isn't entirely your fault.

i really cant give this a high score.

Argh...

I love the comic first off. I even bought the first Bra-man comic. However, I have to say, this game just was terrible. There are way too many problems for just a one level demo. The most annoying thing I found with this game was the incredible lag after grabbing a single coin. Imagine how bad it gets when you hit a group of coins.

Of course that was the worst thing AFTER I continued to die every time I reached the huge gap with single platform jumps. The game would ALWAYS register my jump a second or two after I pressed the spacebar. This wasn't totally annoying since I started like a foot away from it. However, running through the coins was terrible because I would die every single time I started again because of the great lag of touching a coin.

No matter how loyal I am to the comic, I cannot give this a higher rating. Especially since there are so many problems and it's only a demo with one level.
