Reviews for "Road Blocks"

one of the best

really challenging and fun

good job.

very well done challenging game. ^^
smooth controls, easy to learn, but not easy to complete.

A very well designed puzzle game.

I've played this through quite a few times since it came out, and it ranks among my favorite puzzle games of all time. I strongly admire the imagination it must have taken to come up with all 22 or so levels. And, at the time I first saw it, I had not seen anything like it. It's very simple, works with minimal flash and graphical effects... but through excellent design, it has just enough tricks in it to give you a good challenge. It's about as pure a puzzle game as there is, very intelligent.

Most of the levels can be solved through strict and linear logic, if you're patient enough to think through them and focus on eliminating all the wrong paths until one becomes true. If you did like I did at times, and just start randomly dashing the ball around until something works, you'll be much more likely to find frustration than the exit. Though, sometimes luck does work when I draw a complete blank. ^_^

I really like how you put the levels together. You mixed in a very good variety of deception and logic. Some of the stages look very complex, with arrow blocks, warps, and lots and lots of blocks, and you're very tempted to use them all... when the actual path to the exit doesn't involve any of them; it's a straight shot using only a few moves. When you figure it out, it makes you want to smack your forehead, Doh. Very clever use of decoys. Same thing with the stages with multiple exits. It keeps everyone on their toes when you have to really think through 3-4 stages in a row, then hit one where everything's a decoy, the exit is just a few moves away, and you're stuck for 15 minutes trying to overthink everything. It's actually kind of evil how you designed some of those levels. Excellent job. XD

I guess what I'm saying is, you used a simple formula and made a game that's deceptively challenging. Your intelligent design requires focus, patience, and a good combination of linear and lateral thinking to get all the way through.

The only drawback I found was the highly repetitive music. Sometimes I had to turn it off, especially the longer I had to think a stage through. It kind of got annoying after a while and became more of a distraction than atmosphere. I'd recommend more variety if you make a sequel, or at least a longer track.

Oh, and... anybody who can't find a good strategy, use logic... our old standby, the almighty process of elmination. Work backwards from the exit. If there are multiple exits, start by eliminating the ones you know you can't possibly reach. There are a lot of decoys out there...

Overall, you've created an excellent, intelligent puzzle game in its nearly purest form. For that, you have my appreciation and respect. I doubt I could have come up with the challenges you did. Well done! ^_^
