This helped! Oh and uh...how do you make a symbol know when it touches another symbol? Example: My character touches a wall, when he touches the wall, how do i make him stop? If you don't know it doesn't really matter, but thanks for the help man!

Make a wall, make it a movie clip, make its instance name "land" (without quotes)
